Tuning Holley's at the track.

I must say, I'm really impressed with how easy they are to mess with while your there..(at least in the day time)

i was down atco today for only the second time with my Z28 with the new combo in it.. last night was the first.

While at the track over the past two days.... i've changed jets 4 times, and the secondary spring 2 times.....

It really doesn't get much easier than that, not really overly messy.

it was way way lean on me. so i jetted the secondaries up.
still lean, they went up some more. finally it was somewhere close, and i was rewarded with an extra mph in trap speed
just nice dealing with something so blatantly simple.

new best times for the car. 12.54 @ 109.96

Why thank you rancid.. it's much friendlier on the feet and eyebrows this way.

i've been monkeying with the jets and now have it jetted 80-86 it seems very close.... i'll go richer or leaner this coming week i guess. no pinging now. i'm coming through the traps right on the rich stoich line on the af gauge.

Best time with it now, is a 12.28 @ 111.37. that was last friday.

last night i was hitting conistent 12.32-38's @ 110.2-.9's

by the end of the night i was launching hard enough to uncover another lil tuning bugabo.

When i launch very agressivly the suspension unloads really hard. Nose comes up. and carb starves for gas. motor cuts out momentarily. i thing i've gota bring the float levels up some.. I set them low initially. so i'm going to bring em up and give it a couple more shots...

it's hard to duplicate though the odds of the track biting that hard on a friday night are slim
i was getting 1.73-6 60ers on all the 12.3 passes.
the last two were the best. when it cut out on me, also the two quickest passes of the night.... get that straitened otu.. and a couple ticks should shed at the top end as well.

if the bowl level doesn't cure it, i'll have tor un jet extensions or something.

As for as combo, here's the quicky
350, Vortec heads, bowl work, rpm intake, stock vavles, 10.7 compression 1 3/4 slp headers, 700R 3300 9.5" act converter,3.73 ten bolt, and cheaters.

Carb is a very old. 3130 holley. 780 vac sec. OE from like a 65 imp or something.

Pony Killer,

What carb were you running? If this is a different carb, what times were you running with the other carb?

Thanks,
Craig

Fuel may be sloshing out of the bowl vents on a hard launch.

Try joining the bowl vents with a piece of vacuum hose.
Snip a hole in the top and tie wrap it to the carb stud.

Old racers trick, along with the jet extensions.

Please look at my monster combo and tell me why I only run a 13 flat. I know I may need some carb tuning. The carb is 2 months old... any suggestion on jets or even a new carb??

Timing is about 10deg advance base and 36 total at 2500 RPM. The carb has not been jetted. Just A/F with an air fuel meter. Idle is about 1100 in park.
