Need some info on retrofitting from TPI to carb.
Need some info on retrofitting from TPI to carb.
Im not gonna BS and say that i want a fast 305, but its basically what i got. I have a decently rebuild 305TPI and this close >< to going to carbuerator. Fuel injection is such a hassle and i've been pretty much convinced by lots of people to just go carbuerator. My questions are:
1. Any advantages with going to carb with my mods(I.E cam, heads)
2. Any ideas on setups for carbs?
3. Anyone done this and recommend it?
I have vette alluminum L98 heads and Accels 74211 cam with 1.5 rollers
grind: 211/219 .503/.525 112deg
thanx for any info

A carb has a big advantage over TPI in the horsepower department over 4000 RPM.
There are also advantages in cost and reliability.
A well set up 600 CFM carb should keep up with all the horsepower potential of a built 305 no problem.
The exact carb you choose should depend on your complete combination.... as in transmission type, driving style, gear ratio, converter, etc...
If you need some decent fuel economy for everyday driving a small quadrajet or edelbrock 600 should work well for you. Quads can have a few more problems & be a little harder to tune, but they can pay off in fuel mileage & drivability.
If you have a manual trans with 3.73 or lower gears, and you mainly race with this car then you might be happier with a Holley double pumper.
Tell us more about your combo and what you're expecting and I'm sure you'll get some recommendations & answers here.

Well im currently swapping a T-56 in the car and have a 97 SS rear w/ 3.42 posi rear. My intentions was to hit 13's with a N/A 305 mainly TPI. I did hit 14.2 with bad traction. The car is def. a high 13 sec car, i just didnt have time to reach the mark. I would still like to keep it in that category. Id like a setup that provides excellent power through the mid range and top end. Mileage isnt anything that concerns me, but i dont want 10mpg. I was also thinking of going with a weind or B&M Roots style blower but thats another issue that im sure most of you dont want to go through since this isnt power adders. Im looking to have a car thats not gonna fall flat on its face and is pretty much easy tuning.

no thanx, My setup probably costs triple of what yours are worth. No disrespect or anything, but id be losing alot of money.

Edit: I guess you have a aftermarket base dont you. That will change things a bit.
