My '85 came with 3/8" or a little less than -10 AN. The line can handle quite a bit but I'm not sure about the pump.

3/8 is actually closer to #6...
#8 = 1/2
#10 = 5/8

Those numbers refer to the outside diameter of the hose, while the SAE 3/8" of the stock fuel line refers to the inside diameter. I have some Earl's -6 AN hose and the inside diameter is much smaller than 3/8".

Not much, I measured the inside diameter of Russell #6 Proflex, and it weighed in at .355 - Where 3/8 hardline = .375...

I should of said the cross ref number are more of a 'equivalent' thingy. My Bad...

Ohh yea, 3/8 is good to 400HP easily...The pump - not sure, but an aftermarket pump wouldn't hurt...

Next time I get a chance I'll measure the diameters of my hose. According to Earl's website though, their -6 AN hose is .344 in. inside diameter and their -7 AN hose is 3/8" inside diameter so I take back the previous -10 AN statement. I suppose the rule of thumb here is to check with the manufacturer to find out the specs of their hose, and don't assume they're all the same.

Those idiots gave me size -5 hose in a -6 hose box! I thought those hose ends were more difficult to put on than they should've been...

I bet!!!
I got a Russell fitting with no threads before. I mean they had anodized it with no threads...

Have you ever used Aeroquip fittings? Those are hard to put on!
I use a vise, and 30 weight & they are just a turd!!! I bent a AN wrench with those.
hmmm I think next time I'll try a crows foot & a breaker bar...
