New Motor not Running Correctly

i jus swapped in an lg4 to replace my l98 that died while i rebuild the l98. i got a non cc distributor set the timing etc all correctly. but it wont run correctly. on the carb it will only start if you hold the lil thing open on the top of the carb. not the large one but the small one at the front. if you close it the car stalls. do i need a different carb in order to run the car? or did i just do something wrong? i dont know crap about carbs so i dont understand whats going on.

That's the choke. That's what it's supposed to do, except that it sounds like the little vacuum diaphragm at the front right corner of the carb is farkled and isn't cracking the choke blade open a bit when it starts, like it's supposed to.

i was looking at that but when i move the vaccuum part in and out, it doesnt seem to move that part open or close at all.

does anyone have a pic of how this supposed to be aligned?

also i have no power brakes anymore. i cannot find a place to plug the vacuum line into?

Do you have a non-CC carb? If not, it'll never run right.

Did you hook up power to the electric choke? If not, it will never open fully. The choke pull-off is only intended to open the choke butterfly a very small amount after the engine starts when cold. The choke thermostat then opens the choke the rest of the way as the engine warms up.

Yes, cc carbs and non-cc distributors don't work well together.
