my secondaries arnt opening
i think i found out why my car didnt seem liek it ahad all the power it should have,
when i pulled the air cleaner off the intake and held the carb wide open throttle the back 2 barals were still closed i even started teh car up and did it and they never opened up there is this flap over them i thought maybe it is suposed to open with vacume but im not shure.i can open it with my fingers tho pretty easily.
the carb is a Carter Afb competition series. i need to no how the metal flap is suposed to open on the back 2 barals of the carb with eatehr vacume or by a linkage that could be broken.

The throttle plates at the bottom of the secondary venturi will not open uless the choke has fully opened. {If it is an electric choke}. The top plate is operated by engine vacuum. It is also counter weighted . When the bottom secondaries open it opens the top plate by vacuum fairly slowly. Make sure the choke is open then go to wot to see if the sevondary top plate is opening. Hope this helps.

thanx
it was a little bit hard to understand i think my choke plate open manualy not electricaly but any way i know what u mean by those counter wates there is one on each side of the flap covering the back two barels. so when i give it full throttle when the engine is running the flap covering the back two barels should open up slowly not quicky.
what would happen if i maid the carb so that the flap that cover sthe back two barals alwase staid open would this hurt the car or should i just get it to work the way it is suposed to.

Trust me get the carb to work the way it is supposed to. if you open the cover 0over the secondaries and then hit wot there would be no way for the fuel metering system to compensate and you would have a lean stumble. Holley double pumpers are able to accomplish this however because they have a secondary accelerator pump . They can comprnsate for the sudden amount of air.

yeah ur right
the the carb looks brand new so im not going to rig it or anyhting im goign to get it fixed the right way ill let yah now how much power i feel that i got back out of it when its fixed.
im pretty shure the last owner of the car didnt even notice this cause he didnt no much about engines but i can tell there is a major bog when i put it to the floor and the guy that was riding with me was like ur other barals arnt opening and i wa sliek ok so i pop the hood and he was right and and i had to ajust the tv cable cause it wasint doun shifting when i gave it full throttle so i thought that that was the problem and making the engine bog cause it wasnt doun shifting but im shure now that it was both the tv cable ajustment and the other 2 barals opening.
should i notice alot more power ounce i get the carb fixed to ware the back two barals will open when they are suposed two, should it be a night and day difference.

Well once again you may not really have a problem . the way i woud check this is to manually open the choke then turning the throttle back to wot and then manualy pushing the top throttle plate back and look down the venturis while you actuate the throttle back and fourth to see if the bottom secondaries are opening and closing. of course doing this while engine is off.!!lol
