changing carbs
Hello everyone,
I really need some suggestions regarding changing carbies. I own a 82 Trans Am with a 305 motor and a stock 4 barrel rochester carb which runs of a ecm computer.
I wish to heave-ho the computer and revert to a NORMAL system
As i live in Australia information on U.S. products is a bit limited.
Preferably i would like to stick with a rochester so i need to know
which carb( with electric choke) will bolt straight on to the stock manifold. Any part no's carb no's or anything that will help identify it would be greatly appreciated.
Also if possible i have been considering a aftermarket intake manifold for a bit more performance could anyone suggest a package for carb and manifold which will bolt straight on to the 305. I hope this is enough info to get some feedback if not please post or e-mail me.
Thanking you in advance

Welcome aboard.
See my response to this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=189237 . He happens to have the HO version, but your carb has the same potential. Check out the tech articles on this board for more info on getting the most out of what you have.
I prefer the Weiand Action+ manifolds over the Edelbrock Performer, and the GM Performance intake is also a very nice piece. Any of those will bolt to your engine and the carb will bolt onto it.
What your car really needs is changes to the exhaust and cam. Non-computer controlled is no longer "normal", and for a daily driver, is really inferior. But, if you really want to go through with this, Edelbrock makes a new carb # 1904, and Holley 0-9895 or 0-80555C. You'll also need a vacuum/mechanical distributor and some means of locking up the transmission torque converter clutch (assuming you have an auto tranny).
