Open Element Questions
Is the IAT sensor in the same place as the TBI setup? If it is I would need a hole in the base for the IAT sensor right? I plan on getting an open element so does it matter what kind of base I get. Drop or non-drop?

are you switching to tbi??? because it says you have an 83 lg4...
a trick we tbi guys use is to get a flat base... it cost me 10 bucks new then put the iat in it. or you can set it where it gets cold air you can also get a resistor and splice it in. i can't remember the ohms it needs to be but you can do a search.

Why are you getting an open element air cleaner when you have dual snorkel now?
I learned about Clovis in western civ class yesterday. He was king of the Franks in like 650 AD in Europe. And now you live in his town

No im not switching to tbi. it will be going on an 84 Z. Anymethod, I will be putting the open element on my 84 Z. The dual snorkel will stay on the 83
I learned about Clovis too in my west civil class! I was just wondering because this guy is going to sell me an open element from his tbi setup. It is a drop base and it has a hole in it for the IAT sensor. Do I need that same hole?

Depends upon the intake you're using. A slight high-rise like GMPP or Action + will fit under a stock hood with about 1-1/2" drop. Higher rise, need more drop. But, the more drop you have, the less space there is between the base and the air cleaner top.

Right now I just have the stock manifold. Later down the road I will probably get an edelbrock performer manifold. Right now I just want something to fit under the stock hood. Should I get one with a slight drop?

I have a performer manifold (spread bore) with a spread >> square bore carb. plate with a holley 1850 carb... my holley drop base air cleaner clears the hood barely... so you should be fine with anything that has a slight drop

if you are going tbi then do not get a drop base !!!!!!! read the "ultimate tbi mods" on this web site under the technical info!!!!! drop bases suck for tbi!!! also either port out and radius your stock tb or get a holley 670 cfm or turbo city model.

92rsv8, a couple of things:
1) This is the Carburetor board you're on, you know.
2) Mike already said his is not going TBI. He is only considering using a drop base air cleaner that someone else previously had on a TBI, that he would put on an 84 - which would be carb.

you left out #3.
there is NO PROOF WHAT SO EVER THAT IT MAKES A LARGE DIFFRENCE IN A TBI CAR.
thats only people going off "how it looks"
my drop base stock L03 is doing alot better then most flat base ones...... im not saying the drop base is better.. just saying it makes as bout as much diff as weather or not i take a dump before i get in the car.
