Ok... tell me, if i where to get a 1000 cfm carb, and put it on an engine, or take two 500's... which would i get better performance out of?
in other words.. near same air flow, dual or single carb, which does better.?
thanks.

The engine itself does not care how many holes the air came through to get in. As long as the correct amount of fuel is mixed with it, it will be happy.
But, a single carb is a whole lot easier to tune and keep tuned correctly. For that reason alone, I would avoid multiple carbs if at all possible.

In the old days they did exactly as you stated, with two 500cfm carbs to make 1000cfm worth of flow. The only difference between then and now is they didn't have single 1000cfm carbs, or even 750 for that matter.
You might even see it today put to real use, on engines requiring more cfm then the biggest carb available. 'Carb only' application of course.
I havn't heard of any real performance advantages, with feeding say right & left banks or front & rear with it's own carb...
