Fuel question for someone

I am dropping a 350 in place of a 305tbi into my 88. I have been told by some people about the fuel pump that is in it will pump too much pressure out. Is this true? I am running a edelbrock 600cfm electric choke on top of an edelbrock performer manifold with centerbolt heads. Do I need to change the fuel pump in the tank? Is there anything I can just run in the fuel lines? I am confused as you can see, so if anyone has some imput please help

thanks
Rupert

whoever told you is most correct... the TPI fuel pump will be wayyyyyy to much pressure pumping than your carb can handle..

you carb needs about 5-8 psi, a tpi needs i think 45 psi

however, you can use the fuel-lines as well as your in-tank tpi fuel pump for your carb, you just need to buy a regulator and a gauge to moniter and set your fuel psi

thats what I do and no problems what so ever and a holley fuel regulator i think was 8 bucks at summit... cheap

If you use any form of non-returning fuel regulator (like a Holley) with a stock in-tank pump you WILL burn it up. You *need* a return-style regulator such as the Mallory 4309.

Do either of you have a picture of the setup just so I can look at it and get an idea? Also I didnt know this before rebuilding a 305 with a buddy, we are college kids and just trying things out but could this cause a rebuilt motor to knock within 30 miles of driving?

Heres a picture of my old motor. The line coming from the front is the supply, the line coming off the bottom is the return line, and the line going to the carb is ...well, the carb feed (obviously)

Ok that helps alot. Is the return line just a rubber hose all the way back or metal underneath? Is the regulator sitting underneath the guage? Sorry for asking some stupid questions but Im just learning as I go. Also I have been looking for the Mallory 4309 on jegs and summit but cant find it as of yet. Any other places to search or other options that you know of that are good?

The factory TBI system uses a return line. Just plumb into that after the regulator.

I finally found it, and yes jegs does have it but it took me awhile to find it. I also found out that on Mallory's website that the 4309 has been replaced with the model 4307M. Just thought id though that in. I am bidding on a 4309 on ebay currently. Thanks for all your help
