new carb
my friend has a 86 iroc 5.0 qjet and we are going to be replacing the qjet and intake with a edelbrock 650 carb(edl-1806) and a edelbrock performer intake(edl-2101) from summit racing and i was wondering are we going to run into any problems with this setup and are there any special things we need to do? i was wondering also how many plugs do we need for the intake and was size are they?

Is there something in particular wrong with the stock carb?
If not, you're going through a lot of trouble and expense for no improvement in performance.
You'll need a non-CC distributor, unless this is a Canadian car. You'll need brackets to mount the throttle cable(s). If automatic tranny, you'll need some means to lock up the torque converter clutch since the ECM will now be brain dead.
Fix what's really holding the car back - air cleaner (need dual snorkel), exhaust, cam.

LIke five7 asked. Is there anything wrong with the carb that is on there now? if youre looking for performance gains, bigger gains can be had elsewhere...that is assuming the car is bone stock....perhaps you might see something if this car already has headers and a good exhaust. If not, what good is breathing in, if it cant breath out.

the carb is shot is is leaking fuel out of the gaskets and it is very moist.the car has a 3in exhaust and headers.we want to put a cam in it but we are not sure how big to go on a 305

if you HAVE to change the carb, cuz gaskets are fairly inexpensive and "easy" to replace, i would change your cam at this time. why fork over the dough for a carb that isnt really going to do much for a stock 305? if you dont do anything else to the motor and still want to change the carb i would look at a 600cfm instead of a 650 but thats just me.
