If it hasn't backfired on you a few times, then bad intake valves are the culprit.

Well when I had the carb off the intake is clean! I mean clean! And those butterflies at the bottom of the crab are also clean. But when I start my car up in the morning and the car is cold it does something I have never had it do before it kind of like makes a pop but not very loud and it comes from under the hood it also almost dies when this happens. The top of my air cleaner is also black?

anoyne know how to make it stop backfiring? it is running a little rich i get some blackish smoke at WOT. And the backfire only occures while the engine is cold.

You r best bet would be to step the primary jets down a couple sizes so it doesn't run so rich anymore.
