I got an edelbrock 500cfm carb on my 305 HO w/ a one inch carb spacer to cut down the heat going to the carb. Is this too small or just right?

many variables
500cfm through a dual plan, single plane
square bore and spread bore I think make a difference

what mods are done to the car

stuff like that

inmho I would use a 500 for a mostly stock car though

but then again been a while since I did anything with carbs

Dual plane edelbrock intake, flat top HO pistons, crane xtreme energy cam. thats the main mods .. the engine was just rebuilt.

way too small a carb for that cam. That is a big cam for a 350. let alone a 305.

i take it that this isn't your daily driver?

with a dual plane intake you can get away with a bigger carb.

i would say go with a 650cfm or so, and ditch the edelbrock.

Actually, it is my daily driver .. and its a damn expensive one at that. Can i tune this carb to work pretty good with my motor? I cant afford a new carb yet

yeah, you can jet it bigger, it will run just fine as a daily driver.

a bigger carb will just perform better.

why such a big cam on a 305 that is a daily driver?

My friend is giving me an old holley 600cfm. Ill pop that badboy on there , i like edelbrock more but cant beat free. The cam was out of a 350 running deep in the 10s , i got a great deal on it from another friend. Its alotta lift but not a lot of duration so it likes to rev, and waste my fuel at idle.

the 600 will probably run harder assuming it is in good running order, or if you rebuild it.

the 500 will run fine it is just a restriction a WOT. you might even see some vacuum at WOT with that carb. the 600 should help that.
