can edelbrock performer work on my car?

I got an edelbrock performer series carb and I am trying to figure out what to do with the electrical connections that went into the old Q-jet. There was the 3 prong connector on the front and the 2 prong on the top. If anyone can let me know ASAP if this can work it would be appreciated. This is on my 83 305.

The connector on top is for the mixture control solenoid, the connector on the side is for the throttle position sensor. If you're putting a non-computer controlled carb on you can just ignore them, but you'll need to change to a non-computer distributor as well.

Just curious, if your car is 1 of 667 why do you want to get rid of the stock carb?

So, I would need to switch to a vacuum advance distributor. Once that's done I should be fine? Which one effects the distributor? Is it just the TPS or both?

Both, without proper information from the carb the computer won't control timing.

First I'd like to say hello as I'm new here

I'm doing the exact same mod on my 84 Z28. Not possible to modify my distributer with a kit of some sort? If not, any suggestions for a distributer?

Ditto.

There are a lot more reasons not to do this, even if your car is one of 100,000.

The qjet will perform just as well in the given application. Perhaps better.

The q-jet can be modded for performance, believe it or not. There are tech articles on where to get started. Besides, no non-computer controlled will ever get the fuel economy that the q-jet did/does.

i did the same thing to my car, with an edelbrock performer EGR 600cfm carb. i just went down to the local JY and picked up a HEI vacuum advance piece for $35. works fine. just the fact that i have a tangle of unwanted wires now oh well

good call on the junkyard distributor, I may consider that in the future. Just to let everyone know, I'm not concerned with fuel mileage, but thanks for the info anyway. Good luck to anyone else doing this swap, I'm going to wait till later on.

I'm doing an engine swap in my T/A (not by choice), without the cc q-jet and distributor will the tranny (700R4) shift like normal or not at all? And how bad will the engine run without the help of the computer and a 60 over bore and a .488 high lift cam?
