Secondaries driving me insane!
My secondaries have gotten to where they feel like they are starved for fuel at around 4500 rpm and when it shifts to second it feels like the car totally shuts down for a second then speeds up quick and then slows down over and over. I thought it might be the fuel filter, so I took it out and ran it without it. It still did the same thing, so I put a new fuel pump on. It ran great!!! I still had the fuel filter out though. I did away with the paper fuel filter and put a glass inline filter on. As soon I put a fuel filter on, it started running terrible again. It's pointing the right way and there are no leaks. Has anyone else had an experience like this?
It's a cc rochester qjet.

How big was the filter you put in?
You may also have a problem somewhere else in the system, such as a collapsed rubber line, smashed metal line, or plugged pickup sock.

I took the check valve out of the regular filter today and that seems to have solved the problem. Drove it for about an hour and it ran great. I'm sure there is another reason for the low fuel pressure, but I'm gonna have to leave it alone for now. I've had all the fun I can stand!

I guess I'm a little confused. When you said you "did away with the paper filter", I assumed you meant the one in the carb. Now you say you eliminated the check valve in the regular filter - are you saying the "paper" one you eliminated was an in-line, being used in addition to the "regular" one in the carb?
FWIW, I took out the check valve in the carb filter as well. That's the only filter I run.
