Well, finally got around to making this thing. Just a 1/8 thick aluminum plate and the replacement foam for Moroso's carb pan to seal it against the hood I'm planning on getting a round filter and make another plate to seal the top up over the filter, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Could use a little tweaking on the design but it works. This should help during the summer months quite a bit. You can tell I haven't driven the car in a few days, darn pine needles are stacking up

Looks really nice! How do you plan on locating the filter? To me it more or less seems like it would just sit there freely, no little "groove" to keep it stationary.

Where did you get the alum. plate material? I need some for my cowl setup.

Thanks I'm just going to set the filter in place, probably a little offset due to where everything is. The top plate will hold the filter in place just fine. I got the aluminum from Dix Metals, working at a machine shop has some benefits

Just get a little Mr. Gasket 6" air cleaner, toss out the base, put the filter on your plate, and the lid to hold it down.

Actually, the base is what I used so the aluminum plate could sit up at the right height. It was left over from when I first switched to an aftermarket carb then quickly tossed it to the shelf. It was choking the engine so bad, almost impossible to drive.

Stekman, the dimensions are 20 inches wide x 17 deep x 4 1/8 high. The fire resistant foam is 4 inches tall. The carb is sitting on top of a Victor Jr intake, 1/2 inch phenolic spacer and a 1/2 inch NOS plate. The hood is a Harwood 3 inch. The only thing that was hard to do was to locate where the carb hole would go since the engine isn't dead center between the fenders. I wanted the pan to be centered though so it could fit up in the hood.

Cool. Thanks. Breathing that fresh air has got to be better.

And check out this solution I found that involves a cake pan...

Looks nice!!

I'm looking to do something simular soon, but I need to make a drop base pan if that makes sense. My current air cleaner sits nicely tucked into the cowl as it is, just need to find a way to seal it around the hole in the hood...
