With the old Vortec heads and 1.5 aluminum roller rockers I ran a 12.30 @ 113.5 with a 1.94 60 foot all motor with BFG DR's.

On 75 shot of N20 I run a 12.20 but on street tires. I have not yet sprayed with BFG DR'd in order to save my WC T-5.

I have not yet been back to the track with the new E-Tec heads but It feels way faster, 1st and second gear are useless if I open the back 2 barrels.

Times in sig.

I've only had the Camaro out a few times since the mods. It was my "race car" for the 2000 season when the LG4 was basically stock, 3.08 peg leg. First run was a 17.65, with the engine stumbling after hitting 3500 RPMs all the way down the track - weak fuel pump. After replacing that, it was in the 17.30's. Little things like open element air cleaner, more timing, cleaning out the trunk, different tires, etc., got it down into the 16.90's with a best of 16.85. The next year when the '57 was back at the track, I ran it after putting on the ZZ intake (stocker had an antifreeze leak, in the process of replacing the gaskets I decided to go ahead and put the other manifold on, the rest of the mods came the following winter). By then it had 2.93 posi and different tires, but it ran 16.80. With the mods, it needs more gear and more stall to become a "real" drag racer.

The '57 ran high 15's with TA radials and open exhaust when I first put the 396 in the car. It ran 97 mph here with an Edelbrock 1901 q-jet, 3.08 gears, 2200 stall, and open element air cleaner. With a Holley 750 VS carb, open exhaust, 3.73 gears, and 2200 stall, it ran 13.5's 103 mph at Topeka in 2002. With the higher stall, at sea level the RPMs it's going through the traps at are well above the peak HP, so the MPH has fallen off a bit. This year, I was trying to slow it down above the 13.00 minimum allowed dial-in when it ran the 12.9's - through the mufflers.

The moral of the '57 story: Without changing the HP the engine puts out, I've taken off a good 1.5 sec from ET by using the power more effectlivey in the 1320. With 4.11's, I could probably run even quicker here at altitude, but at sea level they would probably slow it down.

Sig, mostly. Details: 355ci, 9.1 compression with cheap flattops pistons, .028" GMPP head gaskets and Dart Iron Eagle 200cc heads with 74cc chambers. Edlebrock Performer intake (non-RPM version). Holley 600 vac sec carb right outta the box. Stock HEI distributor with a slight timing recurve by yours truly giving 34* advance @ 2800 RPMs (14* initial). Hooker 1-5/8" shortie headers with 3" y-pipe and matching 3" exhaust all the way back through an SLP "2 on da lef" muffler. Cam is a junk Crane Energizer 272 flat tappet hydraulic. Stock pushrods, no-name 1.6 rockers and valve springs that were recommended for the cam installed in the Dart heads. Trans is the stock 700R4 automatic with stock stall converter all with 199K original miles (SLOW gear changes) manually shifted at 6000 RPMs. 4.10s rear gears, a cheap Auburn posi and some 255 DRs on the stock 16" wheels. Except where otherwise noted everything else is stock or rebuilt to stock specs.

Obviously, it's not an optimized combination. I built the engine out of parts I had laying around, quite literally. The fact that it's gone as quick and fast as it has really exceeded my expectations. And the best run wasn't all that good. I'm very certain I could drive a 13.3 out of it, but I only had one run with the current combo and I didn't do so well driving it.

May I ask...... what are you looking for? You've gotten responses from people who have gone everywhere from 8s to 15s in this thread. Whatcha looking to do???? How much you got to spend???

In my sig. I'm hoping to be able to do better once I replace my valve springs because I know they're quite worn out. I probably ought to do something about improving the air intake as well.

i'm running low 14's on a stock rearend(10bolt 2.73), 700r4 w/shiftkit, and a 1990 stock vette motor......i'm just lookin for setups for this winter...i'm rippin the fuel injection off, and going with a carb setup, so I just wanted to see what everbody is running on which setups....I would like to be running low 12's, potentially high 11's.....I'm not sure what to do yet, I know which intake(rpm airgap), and i'm gonna get around a 750 carb.....but I gotta figure out what to do with my heads and I need to match them up with a cam....I ask people on here what to do with my heads, and i get mixed comments....i would like to keep the aluminem vette heads and get them ported and all reworked, but others say just go ahead and buy new ones...but i'm a 18 year old kid, going off to college in a year, adn i got 4grand to blow on my car that i've saved up, and I would like to make it last, and spend it in the most efficient way possible ya know

Build your project around your heads because thats were the power is. AFR, Trickflow should be first choice, others with porting, including the GMs. Take your time, I was in the same place quite a few years ago, took all four years of college working on it during the summers to finish...... Not the car in sig, this is my present passion.

I have the Chevy High Performance Book where they do the Goodwrench quests and they make more power on a 350 with stock Vortec heads than pocket ported Vette (113) heads. Vortecs are the best on a budget. I have had some good times with my old Vortec heads, ripping on LS1's WS6's SS's easy. I am olny running the LT4 Hot cam, but there are way more radical ones out there such as Comp XE274H. I built my old motor for under 3000 bucks and it put out 403 hp at the crank and 434ft lbs.

It`s really docile...it idles at 700 in drive with enough vacuam to run the booster and has all the amenities like glass and brakes

consistant low 13's on my stock rims with Cooper Cobra's. it's seen high 12's but only twice...

these tall tires slowed it down quite a bit, and this rear end's gotta go. my '91 Z24 runs almost the same as the T/A in the 1/8

hopefully after this summer i'll be running atleast 12.5's consistantly. then i'll probably upgrade...
