Mechanical fuel pump check
In the morning before I tried to start the car (no start condition)
I disconnected the fuel line at the carb no fuel in the line.
Does the pump keep fuel from the line to the carb
when the car isnt running?
or only when cranking?

Fuel will only be pumped while the camshaft is turning to drive the fuel pump. The fuel doesn't usually drain back out of the line when it's stopped though.

ok so there should of been fuel in the line..
Maybe I have a bad pump
I did check the fuel bowl
(holley 2160) no fuel trickled out of the hole
but there seems to be fuel in the bowl.
Ill jump the car( bat) is getting weak and see if that helps.

I only checked one plug wire
I put another spark plug I had in my tool box and I got a spark.
It is very difficult to take off some of the wires in the back
but I might have to go threw all 8.
I have a accel distributor with ignition coil inside.
have to buy an offset screwdriver to get the cover off
to check the coil, but first ill check the rest of the wires.

ok heres the problem so far
I think I saturated the plugs with gas because
my choke wasnt operating and I flooded the engine
I took one plug off that was easy to get to well easier
than the rest looks like I need a 15mm offset wrench for
most of em..
anyway the plug was black and wet..
First ill have to get the choke fixed (thats another post)
hope this solves my
problem
thanks for your input

Update
took out all the plugs with 5/8 offset
2 people said it was not the right tool for the job
look at my engine I said I dont have much choice.
anyway they where all saturated with gas,
black from soot and some had black gunk oil on em
the oil control on this car isnt set up right
either
One of the boots to the spark plugs was burnt
and open and mostly destroyed this may be the
problem it grounded out on the headers
I need to get spark plugs and wires
the plugs that are in there where ac delco R43TS
maybe iI should go to a hotter plug
Also need some good wires any suggestions ?
need to fix choke run wire to ign fuse box but
dont I need a relay?

Plug temperature isn't your problem, put a new set of plugs in first and see how they start to foul.

update 2/18
I purchased 2 new plugs ac delco GR43ts
and cleaned the dirty plugs there are also ac/dc R43ts
I didnt realize that the new ones where gr not r
but they looked the same anyway.
I replaced the spark plug boot with
another boot and taped it up.
I tried as best I could to tighten up the spark plugs
with the offset wrench. The back left was the worst.
Maybe a thin wall socket will work not sure yet.
The headers take away most of the clearance.
I wired up the choke to the fuse box.
I dropped the fuse box down and put a male connecter on
the ign slot.
Im hoping the electric choke can hold 12v and not melt.
I posted on this subject no responses .. and I went for it.
The car started after a few cranks without stepping
on the gas I was very pleased at this point.
My face had a big smile.
I must add I had some help from a neighbor who
knows something about carb cars he drove and still
drives Chryslers.
There are electrical problems I must try to fix
The guages blew again and I was hoping this
problem would fix itself because I disconnected
the alarms from under the dash but now I know
that I dont know whats causing this problem.
Matter of fact I never knew (so far.)
The car is driving nice....
except for a very annoying thumping sound that
I cant figure out im hoping its the speedo cable
and not something worse. It comes and goes when it
feels like it I guess.
Something strange happened when I started the car at night
leaving from work ... I turned the headlights on
and the chime started up and wouldnt go away
I said **** now I have to drive with the chimes going now all
the way home maybe I will get use to it........
Madness setting in.
I got out and disconnected the fog lights because I put
them on figured thats why they where disconnected.
wrong theory...
I turned the headlight switch and the dash lights went out
and so did the chimes.. great maybe now I can locate this
and maybe not...but at the least I might learn something.

YES Indeed you are correct!
CR not GR my mistake..so is there a diff between cr and r?
ITs time for an update....
Got up early this morning to take my children to
school and decided to use the Camaro for this task.
I didnt tell the kids about my plans and they arent keen
on this idea, since the minivan is very comfortable and
not scary experience with Dad always underthe hood
on the Camaro.. who knows what lurks in the neary future..
ok back to the update tech wise....
Now the car started .hurray...but the choke isnt operating..
its about 25 degrees right now so Ill have some coffee before
the investigation can be continued.. Could it be I toasted the choke? Well stay tuned for our next adventure into the unknown..
Good Day
By the way the trip to school was fine except
my daughter asked me to slow down .. I commented
am I driving to fast..to which my Son replied.. no Dad
where bouncing around to much..

the "C" is for "commerical" plugs used in high mileage delivery vehicles and such, they have heavier electrodes to last longer. They'll be fine.
When you say the choke isn't operating, is it not opening, or not closing?

Thanks for that info on the spark plugs.
Ok with the choke heres the update..
very cold outside so I had to quit for the day but I did
some investigation for an hour or so..
There is no power going to the choke so it stays
closed ..
I rigged a wire from the choke, running it behind
the fuse box to a ign slot upper right
THis worked fine but then the guage fuse
blew and this stopped the power to the choke.
Let me add quickly that the guage fuse
blew a few times before I ran this wire.
Ive been trying to locate this problem without success.
I recently read an article ( tbi swap to carb).
I noticed that the author of the article said the tach wire
is black ...this got me thinking because the wire on my car
from the distributor for the tach isnt black but yellow!
could this be the problem?
The search for the truth continues..
thanks again
