4 Barrel Edelbrock Problems

First thing, I'm new to cars and don't know too much.

I have a 87 IROC-Z, 305 w/ automatic transmission and whoever had the car before me took the Q-jet off and replaced it with an Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm with electric choke). The carbartor is smothered by the hood insulation (if you look at the insulation you can see where the carb is pressing against it). I am wondering if there is anyway to lower the carb or something so this doesn't happen.

You don't have an aircleaner?

I do, that is what is being covered by the insulation.

take that stupid hood insulation off and throw that junk away. I run a edlbrock performer with a 1" spacer and a drop base air cleaner with a 3" filter and it fits under the stock hood

What kind of aircleaner? A stock type? I don't see how the hood insulation could be "smothering" anything unless maybe it was hanging down in tattered strips or something.

Well the pictures are not turning out too great and you can't see the grey spot on the insulation where it sits ontop of the air filter. But I did notice that the hood insulation is in need of replacement. Anywhere that you all can point me to so that I can get new insulation and pins to hold it up?

Classic Industries should probably have it. If the air cleaner lid is just touching the insulation, I wouldn't worry about it as long as the hood still closes and everything.
