Is there a gasket there, or is it the pump diaphragm?

Sound like you have a hole in the accelerator pump diaphragm. Buy a new one at Advance/AutoZone/Napa. Pretty easy to install- just take out the 4 screws, pull the pump assembly, replace the diaphragm, put the assebly back on, then put the 4 screws back in.

yeah dude, the pump diaphram has the gasket kinda built into it. you'll see what we're talking about when you get the carb off the car and pull the accelerator pump off. like a $5 fix.
