The vaccum port on the top near your choke butterfly should be used as a vaccum source to your distributor. I hope that you replaced the distributor with a non-cc one when you put that Holley in. If you still have the Computer Controlled distributor- that is your problem. Any vaccum ports you are not using should be plugged.

the distributor will come soon. i know i need it. could the vacuums not being plugged cause it to flood though?

For about a month I had a CC distributor and and non CC carb on my car. One of the main problems I had during that time was that it seemed like the carb would flood sometimes. The vaccum hoses shouldn't have anything to do with the carb flooding: if anything, they would lean out the mixture. You need to properly set your float levels and adjust the idle mixture screws with a vaccum gauge. Also, plug any vaccum ports you are not using!

my vacuum problems are solved, thank you. but the carb is flooding still. im not talking about just a little, now when i crank it the fuel pours out of the top. ive ran the mixtures all the way in and every where from 1/2 a turn out to 2 full turns out. nothing will help it.

Fuel pouring out the top = too much fuel pressure or trash in the needle & seat

Start with the basics. I see that rubber fire hazard coming up from the driver's side to feed the carb, so I'm guessing this is a fresh swap from fuel injection that hasn't ever actually worked yet. What regulator are you using, and what pressure is it set to?

switch from stock q-jet. ive pulled the carb apart and checked for trash in the seat and needle. it has a non adjustable float. the fuel pump is oem.

ok, ive been reading up on holly problems and it sounds like to me the power valve is out. with jets screwed all the way in im still getting flooding. this means the power valve is out right? i also have had a few backfires since the install and i read that this will blow out a power valve. thinking of plugging it

The only way for fuel to come out the top of the carb, is for the needle valve to be unable to control the fuel. If the fuel pressure is right (which it should be with the stock carb pump system) then it's not because of fuel pressure. The only reasonable cause of the symptom at hand that's left, is trash in the needle and seat, hanging it open.

The power valve will not cause the needle and seat to stick open. Which is not to say that the power valve hasn't been damaged by backfires; only, that it's not causing fuel to bubble up out of the top of the carb.

Go to the store and get a carb kit. It will come with both a new needle & seat, and a new power valve.

The float is highly adjustable. You bend on its arm to adjust it, like the instructions that come in the kit will say.

And do yourself a favor; get rid of that stupid banjo fitting, and the fire hazard attached to it, and put a real fuel line of some sort on there, before your car burns itself to the ground for fuel spewing all over the motor.

i went off the intake, and ran my pcv off the port on the back of my carb. i had the same problem when i first installed the carb. the idle on the carb was set way to low for my car. i just cranked it down a bit and now it works. im hopping when i get my timing tuned it will fix my last prob.(backfire from carb)
