question about Holley fuel pump
Does anyone run the blue Holley fuel pump. I have one, and man oh man is the thing loud. Is it just mine or are they all like that. It was on the car when I bought it in September, I have done a lot of work on the car since, and have not driven it until today. The loud whir sound drove me nuts. Thanks for any help.

I started out with a A2000 Aeromotive pump which dwarfs the typical holley pumps, now that was a loud son of a gun!!! I mounted it to an isolation type bracket and then added more soft rubber between that bracket and car frame, even at that it was still loud. Lost that pump after running all year on the street and racing and had to buy a holley red pump to get through a race....compared to what I was used to, it was all but silent.
Installed a Holley Blue with high pressure spring this spring and it was much louder than the red with high pressure spring. How you mount it and where you mount it plays into overall noise level as I've heard personally on many cars in our group running holley pumps.
One thign that will also lower the noise level would be to install a by-pass regulator, it will allow the pump to free flow so it does not moan and groan trying to push fuel that the engine cannot use.

I used to run a Holley Blue and it wasn't loud at all. Might have been because I was running a return line though. I switched to a 110gph Holley mechanical just for reliability and simplicity. I now run another Holley Blue under my hood for my nitrous fuel supply and you cant hear it with the car running.

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to remount it with some rubber to deaden the sound, maybe I will get the bypass regulator as well.

i have a bypass regulator with return line and mine is loud. I have it mounted on the spare tire well and it was much quieter when it was mounted where the factory fuel filter goes. I think i'll add some more rubber in between the mounts and spray it with some undercoating as well.

I remounted the Holley pump with rubber spacers. This did not make it any quieter. I used the second output port to run the return line, instant quiet. The car had the pump when I bought it, so I don't know if it is the bypass style regulator. Hopefully the car will run good as is with the return line. I still have sufficient pressure while idling. Haven't driven the car yet. New Jersey just got an inch of ice.

if you're running the second output to the return line it shouldn't make enough pressure and flow to the carb. you need a return style reg running the return output to the return line for proper flow not an output to the return line because all the flow will go back to the tank and not to the carb.

I've heard of guys doing it that way, but they step down line size to -4 or 1/4" and install a holley jet to restrict it so it's not all in then all back out and hope some trickles into the bowls.

I got a holley blue and is noisy like everyone else says. Have tried to isolate it with rubber mounts and is still noisy. No luck with a return system either. It does get annoying at times. have heard the mallory pumps and the 'new' holley pumps are quiter. They are vane driven instead of gear driven.
