Where to get a reliable cc Quadrjet?
Need some help.
Any recommendations on where to get a remanufactured cc Quadra-Jet for my LG4? I was checking out this place, but I was hoping you all could offer some valuable input.

It seems to be hit & miss, based on what I've seen on this Board over the years. Some people love Jet, some hate them. Some have gotten remans from Autozone that worked great, others had to return 2 or 3 times to get one that worked.
Any particular reason you're not rebuilding what you've got?

I got mine from pepboys for about 250 before i gave them the core, like 190 or somthing like that. it's a reman.
I dont know if it's a problem with the carb or somthing i did, but the secondary barrols do not open when you get on the gas. this results in the car flooding itself out. It could be with me, I'm new to carbed engines.

Hey cheppibear I just picked up my carb from autozone the other day. It was a rebuild by Champion and I had a few problems with the first couple but it worked out. The first one got totally smashed by fedex which wasnt any of the company's fault but the box had a hole through it and the top the the carb was all dented. The next carb was shipped fine but right as I was about to put it on I checked out the secondaries and realized it was totally missing one of the jets, I have no idea how that was able to leave the factory like that. The next carb was all good but it had 2 extra lines on it like vaccum lines for if you had manual controls on your engine, I believe like the heat risor or something but mine was electrically controled, I could have just plugged them and beeen ok but I wanted it right, The next carb looked all good and so far has been allright I just need to get it tuned and see what happens, But it does seem like it is hit and miss with ordering these carbs from champions but with the right one finally it was nice, the guys down at my autozone were great. And does anyone know why Carquest would have my stock replacement carb listed as 550 bucks? only thing I can think of is it is a new one.

My referb qjet cost me around 250. New carbs are somwhere in the400-500's.
I'm geting ready to take this one back, i am pretty sure the secondary's are not working at all, it's geting the fuel but not any air. Yeah, it's a hit or miss with these things. If it dosnt work, you can always take it back (i dont know about internet buys but they might make you pay shipping to send it back. That would be a no no in my book)

Another option is to take your carb to a shop and see how much they would charge to re-build it. That way you would still have the reliable stock carb.

This is assuming the carb body itself, and internals such as the MCS and TPS, are not FUBAR. If they are, then the $250 rebuilt carb may be the better route.

this really only applys to you if you have a local junkyard, but if you could find a L69 at a yard and pull it, i think you'd have a 650 cc q-jet!

as five7 said, its a hit and miss because hardly anybody anymore can build a q-jet to run worth a Sh*t. Jet performance is selling complete pieces of crap for $500 (CC) so its gonna be tough. Your best bet is to keep yours and pray you find somebody who has a clue in rebuilding those carbs and keep your fingers crossed.

I remembered the Carb Shop from back in 1993 when I first started messing around and learning. I called out there (they are in CA) and spoke to Mike Riley.
Carburetor Repair and rebuilding, Holley, Rochester, Carter
$350 for rebuild.
Seems like the best bang for the buck so far, considering they have been doing this for a long time. You get a one year warranty, so that is not bad either.

why don't you check a local board for NJ and ask for q-jet experts? There's got to be someone local to you on these boards that would be willing to show you how to rebuild that for under $300.....

I have alot to do on this car and not alot time. Once I get the drivetrain figured out, on to the suspension, interior, exterior, etc.
I have toyed with the idea of putting a TBI system on it, but at this point that is way more expensive than picking up a new (rebuilt/reman'd or whatever) Quadra-Jet).
IMHO, the extra couple bucks for a carb expert to do it, is worth it to me.
So here is a thought....
Down here in North Carolina cars don't have to pass a sniffer test. They just have to pass a rather lame and quick visual inspection. If thats the case up where you are what about finding an old caddy quadrajet off o lets say one of them big block 450+ cubic in engines. I had one for my Cicrle track car that had been worked on a little bit and let me tell you. You put the same engine under that carb and then put it under a holley. Well lets just say I'm paying to have mine sent back to me for my new road raceproject.

I bought mine at Autozone. I had to take the first one back when the TPS went bad, but the one I have now hasn't given me any trouble yet. Knock on wood!

Well hey, what do you know. Summit does offer a computer controlled street legal direct replacement carb. It looks like a Rochester remaned by Holley...
