Which carb for this setup?
Hello, I'm stuck here with an important decision:
this engine is going to be about 350-ish (a 80s caprice 305ci bored over with ~3.85" pistons). the cam is a cs-179R from federal mogul (Speed pro 3000 series)
cam specs:
Duration Valve lift Lobe
part adv type idle range .050 lift .006 lift Int. Exh C/L overlap
CS179R 290 Perf Good 2200-5200 222/222 290/290 .447 .447 114 78
see here and here.
and here in common setups for sale.
I'm going for the Hughes 2000rpm stall TQconverter, and later on some sanderson headers (cc13) and a dual exhaust if possible.
I was planning on a 750cfm 4barrel Holley 4160 series. (Vacuum secondary and electric choke, though not sure if that matters as I'm in the carribbean...)
also an aluminium intake manifold (dual plane & low rise).
all are probably going to have to be ordered from summitracing.com
my question:
-is the (vacuum secondary) 750Cfm Holley Street Traditional (4160) going to be too big for the cam/engine as it has some minor vacuum loss as said in the link..?
or should I get better drivability (Miles/gallon), response and less vacuum issues (due to cam) with a 670Cfm Holley Street Avenger (also vacuum secondary)?
This all is going into a1976 Chevrolet Monza 2+2 hatchback (see v8monza.com) 3rd-gen Chevy Camaro, ok?

Why not just post on V8 monza then?
What does this have to do with 3rd gens?

@sonix because:
-this is not monza nor thirdgen specific like the other threads in here.. Oh wait, scrap monza and fill in camaro instead, now ok?
-this is in the engine / carb-section.
-I thought u guys would be helpful as it is the same chevy smallblock engine...
-I'm trying to get some expert opinions on this important decision.
-it's posted on v8monza already, but that's a small community and I need to decide asap and you guys rund the SAME engine... doh
-please try to be a nice person or ignore me, tnx.
@apeiron a 305ci Chevy Smallblock engine uses 3.74" x 3.48" bore and stroke (1970s-1980s afaik)
a 350ci engine uses 4.00"bore and 3.48" stroke... by boring and stroking you can get the same displacement. mine starts at 305ci but with slightly bigger pistons and a tiny increased stroke, so it will end up 327-350ish.

Ahh, didn't know you were going to increase the stroke, too. You do know it'd be a whole lot easier and cheaper to start with a 350 though, right?

yes, Apeiron, but regrettably on the island (caribbean) I reside there's no easy and cheap way to get a 350, even used.. and I got a 305 really cheap, hence I took it, and used the pistons we had.
my engine-builder cousin is taking care of measuring balancing etc.. I'm looking now for a carb to fuel it all.... any opinion on a good one Apeiron?

What kind of transmission will you be using?
If you're re-using your pistons, how are you going to shorten the rods to match the increase in stroke?

using a TH350 trans with a 2.95 / 2.93 rear end (not quite knowledgeable in that)
using brand new hollow top domed pistons which are going to be shaved 0.01" / 1.2mm of the rim. not really counting much to a stroke, these pistons are mainly a lil bit oversized so the (widened cilinders of the) 305 will be bored to fit them...
