Proform 650DP or 750DP

a member recommended a holley or proform 750 DP for my setup, but I filled out some of those carb calculators, and they are recommending smaller..

its a 355ci
mild ported aluminum L98 heads
276HR cam - .503/.510 lift - 224/230 at .050 duration
1.6 roller rockers
air gap intake

is 750 too much, or should I go for it? also is proform a better carb than holley or vice versa? what sets them apart?

i just got my proform 750 in the mail today and with all the add-ons it has over a basic holley double pumper I'd say the extra price is well worth it. Adj. secondary pump cam, billet blocks and base place, proform main body, screw-in air bleeds and idle restriction. I don't see how you could go wrong with it.

I have used a 650 dp with great results. And on a mild motor like that I think you would be happy with a 650 dp

Car: 87 Monte Carlo ss
Engine: ZZ4 1.5 rollers 650DP
Transmission: Probuilt 700-R4
Axle/Gears: 8.5 GN 3.42
Lets put it this way.A 650DP will work just fine but with that comp cam I would run a 750DP.The 750 will give you a few more hp up top. That combo is good for 400hp. A guy I know had that combo except no port and polish on the heads and he made 393hp.His was a zz4 with performer rpm intake and the XR-276HR with a 750DP.

alright i'll plan on a 750...now its just a matter of time before I get it...

that is a good point for room to expand, I would like to build a mild 383 someday (more of a torque monster)...

another question, does the technology of carbs and manifolds expand year to year? the reason I ask is this car won't truely be street ready for probably another 1-2 years...i'm just worried about if I get the airgap and a proform 750DP right now, then a couple years down the road and its outdated by something else....otherwise should I just wait and see what comes out and buy something when the rest of the car is up and ready to go?

carbs haven't really changed since the 70s, I wouldn't worry about the proform going out of date, especially since they've been unchanged since they came out basically. the airgap is a good intake which is only a couple of years old at most, so I don't see anything else replacing it that will be worth a ton of HP more. But if the car won't run for 2 years, shouldn't you spend the $500 for the carb and $200 on the intake towards getting it closer to being done first?

the rest is all body work....and I want to make sure it runs good first...i'd like to be able to drive it to the body shop

but i'm going to be getting rid of my HSR intake, so I would like to buy atleast the intake to kind of button things up again....i don't want the top of the engine to be exposed while its in storage...i have a year left of college, so after then its full till on the car to get it done...
