carb help

my car diesels alittle bit after shut down of vehicle... the timing is dead on would the idle be to high on the carb? how do i adjust that if its the case?

If your sure the timing is right, then the idle could be too fast/hot/lean. What's your idle speed, what kind of carb are you running, and how hot is your engine getting?

between 5 and 15 on rpm gauge, i have quadrajet,m and running temp bout 185-190.

Well... 5 is low, 15 is high. If I turn my engine off at 15,000 RPM I'm sure it would diesel too. I don't remember exactly where the idle screw is on a Quadrajet, but it should be easy to find. Somewhere on the throttle linkage, it has a spring around it. Try loosening it some.

yeah yeah its a screw with spring around it a guy doin my timing was tightening it in he tightend it maybe 5 turns. s loosen that then?

Crank it down until it idles at around 800.
