won't crank

i have an 82 TA. i have had it for about 6 months. the guy i bought it off of took out the crossfire fuel injection and put a new edelbrock intake manifold and 4 bbl carb. it has been running rough for a while and now it won't start. should i try to mess with the timing or try something else first?
thanks

Re: won't crank

was the distributer changed to one that uses a vacuum advance and no control module? If not it needs to be for it to run correctly.

It will run with the wrong distributor, it just won't run right. Since it ran before, that is obviously the case. "Running rough" is not what I mean by not running right, however.

Something is wrong, so figure out what that is before you go changing things that probably aren't what's wrong. The basics are always the same: air, fuel, compression, spark, all at the correct time.

Since it began running rough before it quit starting, that's a pretty good indication something was degrading. That could be ignition, it could be fuel. Make sure you're getting spark, and the plugs aren't fouled. Make sure the carb has fuel in it and it is fresh (not water contaminated, for instance). Go from there.

Re: won't crank

Yes, and like five7kid stated something has degraded and failed which IS probably ignition related providing your getting fuel.

I was a little reluctant to add to my first reply since your thread was titled "wont crank" insted of wont start. So I only hinted to why it wasnt running right when it would start.
