screw tpi!????

k first my car is a 91 speed denisty 5.0 5 speed t.p.i

when i bought the car it knocked cuz of a rod bearing,, so i really dont know what works and what doesnt work with my tpi system,, the old owner was an *******!!! there is some random wires unplugged, some cut,, im pretty sure all the sensor wires are old.. but who knows

Im building a 400 small block, with a flat tappet cam, bassically a high horse street motor.

with all the downfalls of tuning t.pi and the little bullshit that goes with it,, is it really worth it? i dont care about more or less power, or fuel milage,, i just want a car that goes,, with no problems

the question is:
keep the t.p.i and its possibly mangled harness and try to tune the 400
or,, sell all the tpi stuff and spend it on carb stuff?

While trying to not show my biases, and the fact that we're on the carb board...
I really think trying to get your TPI setup working is more headache than it's worth. Not only will it be a bottleneck to your motor, but trying to find all the little sensors, programming modules, program it right, etc etc is going to be a collosal PITA. Just imagine that the fueling is wrong when you go to break in the cam on the motor. You just wiped the cam. Or washed out the rings. That would be even worse eh?

A Performer RPM Q-jet manifold from MOPAC is about $211, and a Q-jet from the wreckers is $26. A rebuild kit will run you $40. A few other odds and ends and you're done. I would highly recommend this route if you want to go carbed and save a few bucks. I could always help ya tune it if you get stuck.

Ill give that a +1 too

The TPI system doesnt breathe very well on small cube motors, throwing it on a 400ci block will only make it worse. Sure you can go spend a few grand on a intake, runners and plenum but it will still be a bottleneck.

Best bet would be a half decent aftermarket aluminum intake and a carb. Cheap, simple & effective!
