Smell of fuel and Barely start after running

After i drive my camaro anywhere it reeks of gasoline from the engine bay but i cant see that its leaking anywhere, and when i go to start it again after i parked it, like a couple minutes or so i have to have the pedal to the floor like you would if the car is flooded and even then it cranks a lot and barely fires but the plugs are very clean on my car so its not running rich i wouldnt think. need some advice on how to fix this?

the carb is a 600 cfm electric choke edelbrock 1406

How long after you let it sit before you have a problem? Are you running a carb spacer? I ask because I had a problem with the fuel bowling in the bowls on mine that would cause a hot start problem. I put a carb spacer in to insulate it and also put some header wrap insulation around the fuel lines.

Check the EVAP canister and the lines to/from it.

i dont have a carb spacer on, but when i shut the car off i can see the fuel in my clear glass fuel filter boiling, would that cause it?

I know that helped the hot start problem out quite a bit on mine. I am actually running the holley carb but I have heard that it is quite common with the Edelbrocks as well. One of the spacers in the Summit Catalog is advertised specifically for this problem with the Edelbrock carbs.

I have been having the exact same problem with my 86TA eidelbrock 1406 manual choke.

to stop the percolating and flooding when it sits release the preasure from the gas tank by removing the cap for a couple seconds that seems to stop the percolating until you run it again..

just a temp fix

Re: Smell of fuel and Barely start after running

well i wrapped the fuel line from the pump to the carb in a thermo tec exhaust manifold wrap, so after i get the intake back on ill have to drive it around and see, if that doesnt work maybe ill try a wood carb spacer, or what do you use that stopped the hot start bs for you?

Also check for properly adjusted floats might be pushing fuel out and into the intake while its not running and emptying the fuel bowls . The procedure can be found on the edelbrock website. Plus when i had a problem similar to this i also just installed a low pressure electric fuel pump that cured a lot of hot start problems.

I used the edelbrock heat insulator gaskets because I didn't have to much hood clearence as it was. The Summit part is EDL-9266.
