fuel pump probs.

ok I am trying to replace my in tank fuel pump. i pulled the fueses and the pump still runs. i unpluged the relay. it still runs. i am wondering if i have a prob with the wireing or if this is normal. thanks. i am trying to drain the line so i can drop the tank.

also i have a holley blue pump. should it be mounted under the car by the tank or is it ok to be up in the engine compartment. thanks again.

Re: fuel pump probs.

Try unplugging the oil pressure switch connector.

Personally, I would mount it at the rear. Electric pumps seem to be better pushers than pullers.

it worked with the fuel pump power. now i have no fuel preasure.

in the rear of the car where the fuel lines run. there is a vapor peice that is plastic and all of the fuel lines. could the pump be mounted there above the axl. it would not stick out furthur than the vapor peice. so i would assume that the axl would not hit it. it said that it should be mounted with the motor side up. i cannot find any other place to mount it.

Re: fuel pump probs.

I removed the drivers side rear seat backrest and mounted the elect. pump to the body with rubber groments for sound. Elect. pump still makes noise but it just turns on automaticly when I am at WOT or am pushing the "GO" button.

Re: fuel pump probs.

i am in the middle of removing the tank. this is actually a pain. does anyone have any tips or tricks that can help me out. does the exhaust have to come out? do i need to take the t/a off? the heat sheild that is under the gas tank and above the muffler, does this need to be removed? it does not look like there are any bolts holding it,

Re: fuel pump probs.

And yes, all that has to come out. The shield - there are little (7mm) self tapping screws that hold it in. The exhaust has to come out - if you get the rear end up high enough, disconnect the panhard bar, track bar, rear shocks, and let the rear all the way down (watch that brake line on pass side), you can wiggle the entire exhaust out from the cat back without cutting anything. But you have to get the rear end up at least 19 inches for this (I have a 19 3/4 inch jack - that's how I got mine).

When you get to the tank removal itself, you'll have to bend the filler tube ever so slightly and gently as you wiggle the tank out - on reinstall you can take a large (big big big) screwdriver and stick in the filler tube to slightly and gently bend it back into correct position to reinstall the filler tube trim in the fender.

It's a PITA, but still easier than replacing the high beam switch
