Electric Choke

I've got a mess of old wiring inside my camaro engine bay after I removed the unnecessary parts (and by unnecessary, I mean the stuff I won't use). Where is the easiest place to run a live wire from the harness to my electric choke? Does it matter where I get the live wire, as long as it turns on and off in sync with my ignition? Is there somewhere easy on the left side of the engine bay I can just tap into?

Was the car originally carbureted?

Re: Electric Choke

It was original a computer controlled carb. I swapped out the distributor and put in an Edelbrock 1406 with electric choke. It's old carb was a cc'ed quadrajet. Not electric choke.

Re: Electric Choke

If the old carb was a CCC Quadrajet, it had an electric choke. Connect your choke to the factory choke wire.

Re: Electric Choke

Hah, I just found my stock choke wire tucked underneath the battery sitting in a headlight pocket. It goes live on ignition and it fits the plug, going to connect the ground to where my carb's factory ground is.

Re: Electric Choke

The factory choke wire doesn't go live on ignition, it goes live when the engine is running.

Re: Electric Choke

When I turn the ignition on, the wire goes live. So, it must go live on ignition. My multimeter lies?

Or, you don't have the actual stock choke wire.

Re: Electric Choke

Is it a really long wire that extends pretty much all the way to the front of the car along the left side of the vehicle (when facing into the engine pit) with one connector wire and one ground wire (bolt on type of ground)?

Re: Electric Choke

No, it's a single conductor connector on a wire that comes out of the engine wiring loom and is just long enough to reach the carb.

Re: Electric Choke

Ah, I found the connector. It is for an L shaped connector, and this one was flat. I naturally assumed they were the same connector. I'm going to snip off the old L connector and put on one of my regular insulated type ones that just crimp on. It makes more sense, it comes out of the harness that runs along the top of the intake to the (alternator)?

Re: Electric Choke

Not to steal your thread but i had the same question. where is the best place to run the choke wire from the carb. mine was spliced into one of the wires going to the distributor. im installing a new harness and really dont want to slice into the new harness.
