does seafoam clean a carb if pour in it?

ive had great results with seafoam thru the vacumlines on efi motors. but i was wondering is anyone has just poured it down the carb. my car seems finicky lately, trouble starting, have to pump the gas while cranking it. just replaced carb fuel filter and it didnt help. idle is rough all of the sudden too. usually dies a minute after i first get it started now too. before i just pumped the gas a few times and it started right up, but would idle at 2k rpm for a while and i would have to floor it a bunch till it woul kick down to under 1k rpm. use to be hard to start just in the begining of the day and it would start back up fine if i stopped some place, but now its hard to start every time. any ideas/suggestions?

That sounds more like a choke problem than anything else.. you should check the linkage and vacuum components and make sure they are working/adjusted correctly.

if you were to pour anything right down the carb, it would do just that, go right down the carb, it would not get into the carb and throughout the internal parts to clean anything.

have you checked the fuel pump and plugs?
If you want to use seafoam try in a spray bottle.

there was something wrong with the choke as stated above, seems like something is bent and was catching, its better now but looks like previous owner goofed around with it and the secondaries, so i need to get a good look at another carb to see the differances. what is a better carb to put on this car? i plan on a new one then a new intake, then headers and stuff

What carb do you have now? How will the car be used? Whats the engine setup? Trans? If you have a properly working Quadrajet, thats a tough carb to beat for overall performance/reliability/economy. Holleys are simpler, but won't necessarily give more power or better mileage or driveability. Edelbrocks are just glorified AFBs, which is now a 60 year old design. If its primarily a street car, learn how to setup a Quadrajet to do what you want and use that... its one of the best carbs out there.
