Wrong carb?
Took the carb on my 86 z28 down for a rebuild, and (whether by part numbers or by style, I have no idea how he came to this conclusion) the guy told me that it was off of an '83, not an '86.
I've only had the car for a few days and have no clue about it's history so I can't say if it's true or why it would have been changed. Is this going to 'cause any sort of problem at all in the way the cars runs/behaves? Will I have problems getting it smogged? Could this be why the last owner said that the carb wasn't working?

Re: Wrong carb?
Probably not. All of the E4ME carbs will interchange. It may be jetted/rodded differently depending on what application it came off of though. A caprice carb will be jetted the same as a trans am 305. The truck carbs may be leaner, from what I've found.

Re: Wrong carb?
When you buy a rebuild kit for it though, you go by the numbers on the carb and not by application (vehicle). Carb setups and features vary too much between engines, and even production dates of the SAME engine, for it to be even remotely reliable to list carb kits by application. Every book out there will want the numbers from the side of the carb to match it to the proper kit.
Its especially true of Quadrajets.... there are so many kit P/N out there it would make you crazy counting all of them!

Re: Wrong carb?
So as long as the rebuild is done according to the carburetor part number and not the car it was pulled from, I should be okay?

Re: Wrong carb?
I have a 85 camaro 5.0 z28
I found out the engine is out of a 87 or newer car, with tpi
we removed it and put in a cran z cam 113512
edelbrock intake and a 600 cfm electric choke carb
the car is extremely doggy off the line. and going down the road at 55 steady speed it acts like its missing.
We did change the jetting in the carb and was wondering what or if you or anyone would know what number jets to run in that application
any comments would be appreciated
Thank you

Re: Wrong carb?
Nope. Nobody without a wideband and a dyno can tell you what jets to use. Missing and having no power is more likely something other than the carb.
