duel carb question
alright. lets say i got 2 carbs at 500cfm.
is that equal to a 1000cfm carb?
im just woundering. i found an intake i like but its for duel carbs.
it comes with a kit with 2 carbs and airfilters and all that kind of stuff.
iv always wondered about the 2 carb thing.
if you guys can help. that would be awesome

It's true flow-wise, but it's rarely true performance-wise.
What do you plan on putting this on?

Re: duel carb question
im building a 383 stroker.
and im just looking for a good intake.
and i found a tunnel ram intake with 2 holly and some have 2 edelbrock carbs.
they differ between 500cfm to 650 cfm.
comes with all the hardware needed and everything for not to bad of a price.
thats why i was woundering about the duel carb thing.
or should i just find a good intake and get a bigger carb?
im making my car morely for drag racing.
so i thought maybe 2 600cfm carbs make a 1200 cfm.
i was thinking maybe getitng a 800cfm. some people say i should get a 850.
what is the better way to go?
one bigger cfm carb or go with the duel smaller cfm carbs?

Re: duel carb question
One carb.
The car will go faster, EVERY TIME.
Dual carbs are for the street rodders, because they give more potential square inches of chrome.
If you're going racing, you'll probably do best with a single-plane intake, like a Vic Jr or somehting; and about a 750 or 800 CFM carb. One of them. If you run a dual-plane intake, it will tend to want a larger carb; single plane will tend to want a little bit less.

Re: duel carb question
i wouldnt recommend dual carbs. Its performance vs. looks. Dual is for looks, you will hate yourself trying to tune the darn things. And the tunnel ram is crap for less than 11.5:1 comp.
Go with a 750cfm carb depending on the make, you may want a slightly higher one, and a good intake. Im pretty happy with my RPM airgap.

Re: duel carb question
ill probably go with a 800cfm.
go with a holly or edbrock. which ever one is a good deal.
now in search for a intake.
any suggestions?
what about thos these high rise type intake?
like one of these?

something similar to that effect.
would a 800CFM work well with this? or should i go with a non highrise intake?

Re: duel carb question
That is a STRICTLY RACE ONLY type of intake.
500 HP is easy enough to make with a 383, if the rest of the motor is built right, without an unstreetable arrangement like that. If that's all you want, a Performer RPM and proper attention to detail when building the long block will get you there easily enough. Without the attention to detail, no amount of racing stuff on the top of it will "make up for" built-in deficiencies.
Read DennisBernal's story of woe about what happens when a high goal for power (500 HP out of a 383) is set by someone who has never had anything quite like that before and doesn't know quite what it's REALLY going to be like, one of those "be careful what you ask for in case you get it" type of deals; coupled with an engine build that left out some of those critical details.

Re: duel carb question
nice vic jr. and a 750-800cfm double pumper holley, skip the edelcrap if you want to go fast. Personally I like the proform 750 race series carb and that's what is on my car and it was tons of adjustability.

Re: duel carb question
yeah i been reading up on afew articles on the nternet. most people are going with the Holly carb.
must be a better carb :P
is there a real difference on the type of carbs?
i thought a carb was a carb. just different brand names.
besides the double pump part lol but i thought the size of the carb (CFM) was the same threw out all carbs.
something im missiong out??
