hey has anyone ever had any luck with a predator carb. for those of you who dont know, it is a variable venturi carb. it adjusts from 390 to 930 cfm depending on what the engine demands. i picked one up for 50 bucks but havent put it on my engine (383 stroker) yet.
thanks

Re: predator
sell it to the monster truck people and get a holley carb, that predator won't fit under your stock hood, they are too tall.

Only one I've seen at the track in years: '91 'Bird, 400, trailered to the track - runs high 13's at 5800' elevation.

Not very impressive. But, I don't know what all they've done to the engine/car.

I played with one (Street Model with the Special low-idle fuel circuit) on a 300ish HP 305. It pulled very smoothly and had very crisp throttle response. It could not pull down quite as good fuel mileage as the Q-Jet, but got close. Would I run a Predator again if I was carb, ABSOLUTELY. The trick is experimenting with the FUEL CAM and the position of the fuel cam (you can advance/retard it to change the fuel curve).

With the low-idle circuit, my 305 would idle at 550 rpm in drive all day long, jump leaving the hole, and had smooth power everywhere in the rev-range.

To my knowledge Predator is still around. This is the last known location, to my knowledge.

Re: predator
I've seen several of them at the track. Only seen1 that ran well. That guy said he had been working with it since the start of the season(it was october then). The only reason he hadn't pitched it was on principal , he was not gonna let it beat him. All the others that i've seen were accompanied by loud cuss fits, and weren't on the cars long.
