Cammed 305 running lean?
Cammed 305 running lean?
Recently I swapped the cam and intake in my 305, to the Summit K1102 Cam, and EPS Performer Mani. I have yet to jet the carb, Its definatley running way lean. It has trouble starting when I dont give it a lot of gas, and isnt pulling as hard as it should. Is this effecting my performance at all?
The current carb is a 650 cfm eldebrock with stock jets

The hard starting could be several different variables, everything is sealed up tight from the intake swap, right? That cam is very mild, so I wouldn't pin it on that, factory like setting should make it idle just fine.

Re: Cammed 305 running lean?
I have that cam in my 305, stock heads, ZZ3 (Performer) intake, and a 1406 Edlebock on top. (600cfm) I went from the stock q-jet to the Edlebrock last season, and I needed to step up a LOT from the stock jetting to get the Edlebrock to delivery enough fuel under wot. I ended up with .101 jets in the secondaries, and richer/faster rod. I left the primary jetting alone, it runs find under part throttle. Running lean is defintley going to effect performance, and more importantly, the life of your engine.

Re: Cammed 305 running lean?
Ok so i am just going to Jet the carb and tune it, Hopefully this helps because right now it only pulls a little bit harder then before. So maybe this will help the performance. The car hesitates when i get on it to..Might this be a part of running lean? I hope this helps this little 305 get going...

Help my ignorance, Whats the best way to check my timing? Right now im on my own learning this stuff, when we jet the carb i will have the help of real mechanics as im just learning, but would like to do the most I can before i go and use there garage?
All help is very much appreciated.
