HI... Im getting sick of these high gas prices so I thought I try some E85.. So I went and put 10 gallons in it. It still starts and runs ok but I noticed a difference in power. It runs good until the electric choke opend up all the way. I runing it in in a 100% stock 350 with manifolds but engine has a Holly 4160 600cfm crab on it. Im thinking its leaning out pritty good. Because its real tuchy off idel and once you get going it seems to dog out. So what would be a good jet size to go to. I am planning on rebuilding it and poting a powere valve delete. The carbs been on there for 9 years now. So what would you guys recomend for Jetting with out the power valve. Yea I know its dumb just to put e85 in But It will be great to get it to run diesent It will save me alot of $$$..

 

your going to have to get about 40% more fuel through that engine on E85. so after you spend money getting the carb right and then your fuel economy goes from say 18 to 11 mpg. Have you gained anything?

 

yeah E85 needs more fuel injected than regular gasoline. SO you end up using more in the long run. How much more? i dont know.. i havent seen results on that yet. That will determine the savings, if any at all.

I highly recommend the Quick Fuel Technologies E85 metering blocks.

 

will..... I'm getting about 8-12mpg right now with 4:11 gearing.... Im looing at the metoring blocks and is that some thing I would just have to install and run? I wouldnt think I would have to go up 40% in jet size.. It runs and gets driven every day with the stock holley jets... Let me know if any of you guys are running it and have results.. I dont know why people think its the worse thing ever to run it.... I have been rinning it in my v6 4th gen for a awile now with a 60%E85 and 40%gas with ethonal blended.. Its been running the same and getting about the same milage..

 

Hes not gonna get 40% less. Maybe 20 but not 40.

 

I can do my own jeeting.. I just need some where to start with size... I didnt post to be told I was a stupid. I am just seeing if any one has done it and whats the specs are.. Even if Im spending the same amount of money on e85 as in gas I will be giving my money to America not over sea's...

 

The QFT 34-106 E85 blocks cure a lot of the ills with running E85. The instructions give suggestions for jetting changes (don't have them in front of me, forget exactly what they say).

The buying-from-America thing is a nice sentiment, except we're importing a lot of ethanol from Brazil just to meet the E10 mandate. Better than buying crude from Senior Loco in that other South American country, but you need understand reality.

 

I under stand relaity.... I have 2 huge ethonal plants within 20min's from my house... I know we import alot but it will help if were buying more products from the us.. How Much are the e-85 blocks and where can I get them. I have been searching but only found one set of used ones on ebay.. If I could get away with just rejeting it would be great. Im not going for speed..

The idle circuit and power valve circuit restrictors make a big difference in everyday driving.

BTW, I'm not an anti-ethanol wacko. I've been saying for 2 decades that we could grow our way out of our oil dependence, it's just a matter of developing the infrastructure. The slowest way to getting there is having the federal government supporting ethanol.

Joined up to help out a bit with E85.
Hey Travis,
increase the primary jet by 20% and the PVCR's by 15% over factory size.
The secondaries will need 35% on the jets.
Use the chart for surface area at the Demon carbs site or one like it to do the calculations.
Bump up the pump nozzles one size and make sure the carb is set up right on float levels, power valve condition, clean air bleeds...etc.
Economy on E85 usually runs at a 10-20% loss of mileage but depends on the cars tune up and your right foot. Its very possible to come out with better overall economy.
Sounds like your car was running rich if it ran at all on E85 so be sure the carb is right.
There are metering block mods to do if you want it fine tuned. Some applications need it and others can do without them. New E85 metering blocks get you there if you spend the cash.
