Really Really Confused....
I bought an 89 IROC a few months ago, and have slowly been getting things to stop leaking (valve covers, intake manifold, rear main seal... the list goes on). The previous owner removed the TPI from the engine, and claims to have replaced the stock 305 (it's manual) with a 350 out of something. The engine is now carburetted. I got the car dyno'd the other day, and quite frankly I almost cried. At 2750 rpm, I'm making 280 torque and at around 4000 rpm i'm making (tear) 180 hp. Here's my set up, and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on something.
Supposedly a 350 with the stock exhaust manifold, torker 2 intake w/edelbrock performer 600 electric choke. I have the stock distributor with points... and frankly it's all a big mess.
Here are my questions-
Where is the block ID and is it possible to see without taking the engine out (I'm curious if it really is a 350 or the same 305 without the TPI)? I want to see if I got screwed.
I'm looking for a new top end, what's a good combo to make around 350whp? Can I do it for less than or around 2K? I can do the work myself.
I realize that the stock exhaust manifold is terrible, but is it as bad as my dyno run says?
My tachometer is apparently off by a lot. During the dyno run I ran my engine to 6500 rpm, but the dyno only read it as 4200 rpm. Any idea what that is all about? I got my distributor replaced at a local garage (couldn't wait) and just don't know what is wrong.
Lastly, is it possible to put a harmonic balancer on wrong? I can't set my timing with a light because I can't see the mark on the balancer AT ALL. Just curious if it's possible that it was put on like... 180 degrees off.
Thanks for reading, I'm hoping to get this all figured out...

Just realized I should put this in general engine... sorry. Redirect to there.
