going to carb-is this a good intake/carb??
Im probably going to be going to carb pretty soon and im getting a 750 holley DP, and a eldebrock performer dual plane intake. My engine combo is a 355 with vortec heads and lt4 HOT cam.
Also i was wondering about distributors, should I just keep my electronic one and just lock it out or get a vacuum advance one??

You might be happier with a 650 DP instead of a 750. Get a vacuum advance distributor.

What do you want to know about the distributor? Using the one you've got isn't an option.

talked to some pros at the drag strip today he recommended an air gap and a 750 and a vacuum distributor. I was wondering if i could just lock out my distributor or if i had to get a vacuum distributor. I plan on doing some strip and its my daily driver for the summer, but I only drive like 250 miles max a month.

If it's going to be street driven, you need a vacuum advance distributor. You could lock the advance out if you had a big cam and high stall, but the weenie little LT4 doesn't come close to that. Even then, you'd want vacuum advance for part-throttle operation.
I'd still go with the smaller DP for something that's going to have any daily-driver use. It'll be easier on the gas bill.

If I could find a 700 or 650 I would for the gas or even a VS carb, but for 75 bucks for a carb I guess I can't be too picky versus 450 bucks for a new carb, jeez they used to be like 40 bucks

I'd go with the performer RPM instead of the regular performer, gives room to grow and it's a better manifold.

it turns out its the regular performer
guess ill have to shell out 200 bucks for an rpm. I don't really care about gas mileage i'd be happy if i got 12mpg as long as im making more power. How about the summit HEI distributor?? its only 89 bucks seems like a good deal are they any good or junk?

Are you going to drive it on the street regularly? Street/strip? Drive it only to the strip? Trailer it to the strip?
You should only consider locked-out advance for the last two.
The Summit HEI is okay. The $89 one, if memory serves, has aluminum cap and rotor terminals - not ideal. To get brass, you need to get their more expensive on, or buy a cap/rotor with brass terminals and install them on it.

I went and ordered the performer rpm, proform hei vac adv dizzy, and throttle brackets and its coming today and when it does im bolting it all up. Getting the regulator and carb off my buddy. If the 750 doesn't work hes got a 650 but it might need to be rebuilt or i could get an edelbrock 650 off another buddy for 40 bucks

Oh yeah, The TPI throttle cable will be too long. I used a TBI throttle cable and it worked fine. I just had to trim the hard plastic that is between the cable bracket and the carb. It kept the carb from going WOT.

50,000 volt coil, 5k more than msd. But you have to click on "more details" and in fine print it says "without coil" wtf i had known that I would have just gone and ordered it. Called jegs they said they would send me the coil, we'll see if it comes if it does then 2 thumbs up for jegs. I'm sure summit would have said to go **** myself

Re: going to carb-is this a good intake/carb??
damn my oil is all milky WTFF!!! going to try changing intake gaskets and oil again, the kind I had on their were supposed to be reusable and I put rtv on them and changed the oil after. I also have to get some breathers as no ports to run a pvc valve. Only port is the rear port for the brake booster and I have to stack 3 gaskets to clear the carburetor. also doesn't look like i'll have room for an air cleaner. And I think the 750 is too bog i mean big

So your oil is milky from running the HSR? OR after the carb swap?
I use a dropbase air cleaner with a 2" filter under a stock 92 Z hood with blisters.

if you're looking for a rmp manifold just buy a used one.. they are normally about $50 used on ebay or at a swapmeet.. i just sold one for $40.. also I'll take that crappy old stealthram.. pm me for address to ship it to.
ps. I'm terribly jelious of your paint.. my car looks exactly like yours except faded to death..

Re: going to carb-is this a good intake/carb??
my paint was shot it was faded too, you can see in the pic of the spoiler. I did a 3-stage buff job on it and it really brought it back to life.
The oily was milky AFTER the carb swap, I re-used the intake gaskets (dumbass!) and changed the oil. I had to RE DO it today, so far so good we will see if its milky tommorow. Cars running and driving right now just got to get my distributor wires and stuff and drop that in and then i can start carb tuning. Pulls pretty good with locked out timing at 6* and an out of tune carburetor.
I just need a thicker carb gasket to clear my rear vac port, ive got 2 stacked for now. We just test fitted my buddies holley drop base air cleaner and it fits so thats what i will go and buy.
Check engine light is on hahahaha gonna pull that bulb out, redo my gauge bulbs while im at it. The one fan runs all the time which i don't mind for now and the 2nd one i have rigged to a switch. My TCC still locks up, how bout that?? I also have that on a switch too. Had to do some throttle rigging but it works. Also got to delete my smog canister and buy another breather. And cut a bunch of wires off
I'll be putting the HSR up for sale pretty soon also

Sounds like your getting close. You can play around with the timing and carb quite a bit.
Did you adjust your trans cable when you put on the new bracket? Check to make sure the throttle is opening all the way?

Re: going to carb-is this a good intake/carb??
I wouldn't recommend an Edelbrock intake with a dual-feed (two fuel inlet lines) Holley. I mean, they function just fine, but the problem is that Edelbrock puts the vacuum fitting for the brakes right directly under where the secondary accelerator pump is on the carb, so you have to either plug that fitting or use a carb spacer, and it becomes a big PITA if you plan to use PCV and power brakes.
What I suggest is a Weiand 8120 or 8150.

Re: going to carb-is this a good intake/carb??
It clears fine with a 1/4" gasket. I also had to get a 14" drop base holley air cleaner. I think the 750 might be a little too big, its actually got a proform main body so that makes it a 780cfm and it doesn't have a choke which really sucks. And it won't stay idling in gear, oh well I don't mind playing around with it. I set the tv cable and the throttle opens all the way, I had to rig it up by crimping a terminal end on it loll but it works
