i have an 86 ta that's carb'd and it does the same thing. I also notice that once the car is warmed up it idles at 1500 which is way to high. anyone know how to lower the idle, i couldn't find the air mixture screw?

Re: help idle issue
19transam, your carb is idling at correct rpm when cold.
lukeylouk, are you sure you have a carb - what numbers are on the side of the carb?
have yu both done a tune up or whats going on?

Re: help idle issue
Mine did the same thing. It was a vaccum leak from one of my brake lines. Fixed it and I rarely have this problem anymore. Maybe once a month she'll act up, but for the most part, everything is fine.

i see the carborator, and the guy who sold it to me showd me where he disconttected the fuel injection and conntected the carb because the engine needed less fuel pressure or something and the fuel injector was to much. maybe sounds correct? i donno but i kno it is carb'd

It should have a fuel pressure regulator in the supply line with a return to the factory return line. If it doesn't, it wasn't done properly and you'll be burning out your in-tank electric fuel pump, or flooding the carb. You can't just "disconnect" something and have it work properly.
Assuming it is a carb (a picture with the air cleaner removed would be very helpful here), is the choke wired for 12 volts when the engine is running?
My spidey senses are tingling that this, if indeed a carb, is an Edelbrock.

Re: help idle issue
how did you find the problem in the vaccum and how did you fix it. because now my car has a very low brake pedal and i bleed all 4 lines already but the pedal still grabs low, sometimes not at all.

Re: help idle issue
you should be able to hear a vacuum leak, but an easy way to find one is to use carb cleaner.Spray it around the base of the carb and the air horn(top of the carb) and see if your idle changes.I have the stock Quadracrap on mine and when I picked it up it has a rough idle and I just had to replace a couple gaskets. What kind of carb is on it?
