My car stalls around turns!
So I was whipping this right hand turn today and the car completely died. Tried it a couple more times same deal. This carb has been rebuilt this summer but I was very unhappy with the work. It came back with a snapped pin on one side, so it got sent back again. Then came back with a bad mixture control solenoid. I had to get it fixed at a mechanic because the carb shop told me it worked. (there was no clicking) I am in the middle of getting my money back, paid with a credit card. What is wrong with my car now? Any suggestions please. Can this be related to my cars mysterious problem of idling at 1500 rpms shortly after startup(with choke off) for about 5 minutes then idling at 700 again?

Blind question here, how full is your gas tank? Thirdgens (Fuel Injected or not) are notorious for an unbaffled tank and having fueling issues around corners when low on gas.
I'm not saying that this IS your problem, but it is a possible problem.

My gas tank was half full, well at the half full line. I was just told by a friend this could be the power steering pump locking up under hard stress?

I don't know what your issue is but I've had that problem before as well. It really sucked because I was at the top of a winding hill with at auto (no e-brake at the time).

I dont see how your power steering has anything to do with your fuel pressure. Sounds to me like the pickup in the tank is sitting a weird way. Qjets are basically the best carb out there vs angles and sloshing.
Check your fuel psi at idle and when you rev it make sure its at least 4psi idle. Should hit like 7 reving it.

I'm gonna go with your fuel gauge is off, and you're closer to 1/4 tank than 1/2. When I fly around corners on a low tank I lose all fuel pressure until the pump can suck up fuel again (stupid unbaffled tank).
Fill 'er up and see if she gets better.

What kind of carb is it.
I have had that problem with a few edlebrocs. Switched to a holley or qjet and the problem went away instantly

is your steering column loose? just asking since you said it happens when you are turning. I had one a few years ago that the plug on the column was loosing contact and killing it when I was turning. hope this might help

Re: My car stalls around turns!
I'm in accord with the guys talking about the tank. I overhauled my power steering, no lockups or problems on mine, but has the same problem stalling around right hand turns when low on fuel, and by low i mean half a tank or less. The more g-force you apply, the more fuel can be in the tank and still stall. My thought on the matter is this:
Is it possible to replace the tank/fuel pickup to perform in high g-force scenarios? I once saw a rather expensive secondary tank accessory that could be installed in performance vehicles for this in racing, but i feel thats a bit much for just everyday street performance..

This was a long long long time ago....
The mixture control solenoid was junk. Which was really, cool, because it was functioning when the carb went out. I was only 20 at this time and hadn't worked on much before. I should have never gotten the carb rebuilt, because it worked before. I've lost 2 mixture control solenoids since. Have to love the eQjet

Re: My car stalls around turns!
Some swap to a 4th gen tank which uses a bucket, and should solve the issue.
There is also an external Swirl Pot fuel system. Basically, fuel is pumped into a small container which remains full, and excess fuel is returned to the tank. The engine is fed from the swirl pot meaning it has fuel at all times. This is probably what you are talk about with the secondary tank assembly.
Last and probably the easiest to install is the new Holley Hydramatt. Which is supposed to use surface tension of the fuel to seal off a porous mat that pulls only from the submerged sections. But its also not cheap. More money than converting to a 4th gen plastic tank I'll bet.

I have no idea what this post is referring to? The problem has been solved.
