carb need elec fuel pump
bought a crate motor from jegs, the site didn't specify wether the motor had provisions for a mech fuel pump, so i called and they said it did. well it doesn't if i can't figure something out with them, what do i need to get for elec pump, would a in-line or in-tank pump be best(well work anyway its no hot rod) i need a press regulator?

The tank has to come down either way, so a quality in-tank makes sense to me.

okay, explain why the tank has to come down/>?

Your 87 should already have an in-tank pump although it won't be enough alone to feed the motor. Instead of dropping the tank and replacing it with something better, I installed a second pusher pump near the tank after verifying that the in-tank still worked. My existing in-tank didn't provide near enough pressure to feed the carb alone when I measure it-didn't even read on the pressure gage.
I ran both through the existing fuel lines thru a stock fuel pump on the block in order to retain the stock routing and return line. Block mounted fuel pump is not running as my motor did not have the fuel pump rod bored. Pressure after the non-functional mech pump was fine for me. Your case may be different.
It would probably have been better for me to drop the tank and replace the in-tank with something better but I came across one of the those standard jeg/summit/holley knockoffs for carbs pretty cheap.

What was your stock motor? Carbed Q-jet or EFI?
If it was carbed, then there is no in-tank fp.
If it was injected then there is and in-tank fp.
If carbed, you can add an inline fp. They make them low psi (around 7) for carbed apps or you can get a general higher psi pump and add a regulator. Be sure to consult with the pump manufacturer on weather it needs a return, etc.
If injected, you could reuse the stock pump, and add a regulator.
Or do as already stated and add an inline puller pump and regulator.
Point is, since you are going carb, is to have the psi at the carb around 7.

The 87 carbed motors included an in-tank helper pump that fixed some issues with fuel supply that plagued earlier models. Your 87 LG4 should have the oil pressure switch for the in-tank off the rear of the intake. It is a 'helper' and won't provide near enough flow on its own.

it is an 87' lg4 so the most easy way would be to add either an lowpsi inline pump or a inline pump and reg? possibly needing a return line?

Easiest yes, best way is debatable. You can use the existing return line. Keep in mind that you don't want to pull thru a dead pump in the tank. Ensure it's working properly. Many will be fubar after 20 + years. Then the tank must come down either way, to remove the old pump and install a pickup for external or replace in-tank with another, better in-tank. In that case in-tank would always be preferred.
