TBI Issues, going carb!
TBI Issues, going carb!
Hey guys. I just picked up another project car and got some questions. It was originally a 305TBI and the old owner swapped out the 305 for a complete LO5 blazer 350. He also swapped the blazer computer. It is running open headers. The car completely falls on it's face and is tons slower than a stock tbi 305 car. I don't even want to deal with it (even though I am curious what is wrong) so I am going to swap to a carb.
I see lots of threads and questions here on the swap topic. I have been searching and just wondering if there are any complete write up threads on the swap? I know I need a vac HEI distributor and a return style regulator, new intake and carb. What else is needed? What fittings, what can I get rid of, and what are the little problems involved with it.
I just want to get it running reliable for a daily driver before I tear it down for a real stroker and fuel system. Since I am eventually going to go 434 dual stage powerglide etc etc I want to invest the least amount of cash possible. Thanks guys.

I know a lot on here are not "carb" fans, lol. It may be worth your while to fix the TBI setup you have. Yes, they are a little more work than carb, but the performance can be better if done correctly.
This is just my opinion and I know a lot of guys on here who might comment like me.
Dig in a little deeper on the threads and you will find a ton on swapping a TBI for a carb and carb to TBI.

I grew up with carbs, have one laying around, and have a few nitrous plate systems laying around. I know I can tune out any problem with a carb, and thats the direction the car is going in the winter anyways. I just do not want to be bothered with the TBI since i am only going to rip it out anyways. 8's on a TBI set up is not going to happen

I would like to fix it before I rip it out anyways. I hate feeling like I gave up on something.

another quick question... In that write up it says to use a certain distributor. I can ignore that part, get a regular vacume advance HEI and use my MSD digital 6 I have laying around right?
