firebird v8 carburetor, help

hello.
I have a firebird v8 carburetor.

he has a rochester quadrajet with electric shock, controlled computer, 4bbl and 500 cfm or 600 cfm.
I would need to find an equally or another brand.
in summit I did not encounter 600 cfm down with my requirements, electric shock and controlled by computer.

Any suggestions?
thanks in advance.
forgive my poor English.

Why do you need to replace your carburetor?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Let's correct a few things here:

1. It's an electric choke.
2. It's computer controlled (Computer Command Control per the factory).
3. CFM is irrelevant. It's a CCC q-jet, and they only come in one size.

They also aren't available new. Rebuilt, yes. But, not new. Summit has rebuild CCC q-jets available http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku .

chesterfield's question is a good one - Why are you looking to replace the carb?

For the record, it's a great street performance system. If you think you'll get more power out of something else, you're barking up the wrong tree. Check the FAQ forum for a thread that talks about differences between 305's and performance improvements.

Re: firebird v8 carburetor, help

I recently bought a Holley rebuilt ccc quadrajet for my 85 trans am thru summitt. My car sat around a long time and is being restored it has low miles on it.I have replaced all vacum lines and sensors but canot get the carb to idle correctly. It was idleing very high at first.Holley's techs told me to back out the high idle screw a couple turns. This did not help.So I began adjusting the (pulloff).a little bit at a time.got the idle down but the car is still rough and seems rich on cold start.Kicks down to curb idle then idles a little rough and fluctuates betwween about about 900-1300 rpm still smelling a little rich.choke is opening and seems to be working properly.I was hoping maybe five7kid could give me a little advice on what to check.I also have not messed with the mixture srews witch are now accessible.Thank you Howard

my carburetor is not working properly. he has a botched job, a screw to regulate the entry of air.
is this:

Cold start to slope, two or three attempts at least.
The 'slow motion'? is always unstable. fluctuates between 500 and 700 rpm consistently.
Also hot is unstable but the engine starts to the first.

1. OK. does not work
2. OK
3. i had no idea

Okay this carburetor?

I thought that would not work because they told me at that summit were 750 cfm or higher.

How many cfm is my carburetor? ¿500? Or this is not important?

very much and once again forgive my english.

Re: firebird v8 carburetor, help

Remove the screw in the red circle. It doesn't belong there and is stopping the choke from working.

The choke heater wire isn't hooked up, and the choke is wired open. Then there's that bolt. . .

That's about the worst thing I've ever seen done to a poor carb. It's probably fixable, but wow, who would do such things?

Re: firebird v8 carburetor, help

I have no idea who did what the screw.
I think that was one of the first owners.
The last owner told me that the choke is not working and the screw was there to have air flow.

Re: firebird v8 carburetor, help

I have put the final carburetor rebuilt by Holley and everything perfect. thank you very much for your advice.

only now is adjust the four screws that leads to the idling is stable.
the car in cold, and the position P, is starting to climb to 3000 rpm. RED adjustment screw and got it down to 750. but then selecting the position D, idling down to 500rpm.
went back to adjust the screw GREEN to carry up to 750 rpm in the D position, but to move to the position P climbed up to 1000 rpm. After all this the engine was hot to adjust the screw RED.
ORANGES not the screws used.
How can correctly set the rpm at the position in the P and D?
What is the appropriate rpm in both positions?

thanks and happy Christmas

Don't touch #2 screws unless you can't get the idle air bleed adjusted properly. Proper adjustment requires a dwell meter (30 degrees on the 6-cyl setting) or scan tool (50% mixture control solenoid duty cycle), and the ignition timing set properly.

With the timing and idle air bleed set properly, engine fully warmed, set the curb idle speed (#1 screw) in D. It'll be whatever it is in neutral.

With the engine fully warmed, timing and idle air bleed set properly, transmission in neutral, open the throttle slightly and pull up the fast idle cam (the green lever on the passenger side) and let go of the throttle. The engine should now idle fast. Set the idle to the fast idle RPMs on the under-hood sticker says (something around 2200 RPMs). When cold, the idle speed should be right.

Re: firebird v8 carburetor, help

hello, I have another problem that I do not know if this related to the carburetor.
I'm driving normally, I floor the accelerator to gain power and to speed up when I left, remains in place and not return to the original position.
maintaining the engine accelerated, I move to the position N and climb to 3000 rpm.
only the pedal back to its original position if I switch off the contact.
Any idea where is the problem? ¿Cruise control wrong?
thank you very much.
