Can i use the TPI wiring harness???
hello all
so i have remove the tpi setup today!
i make the swap to a carb engine!
i have only a few questions about the original 1988 tpi wiring harness V8!
can i use the original wiring harness from my car?
why? because here in the netherlands it`s hard to find a earlyer wiring harness of the right car!
i know that the engine and ecm wiring is one harness now!
what is the best option for me?
stripping the hole harness and remove all the wiring i don`t need (tpi)
and rewire some things?
or cut the plugs off i don`t need and left it in the harness?
will the altenator still working without the ecm?
i hope some people can help me
thanks Dennis

You should be able to use the original harness. Was it a V8 originally?
The alternator does not need the ECM to work.

You won't need any of the stuff that went to the TPI. Everything you need will come from the rear driver corner through the firewall.
If you use a large cap, coil-in-cap HEI distributor, and the original alternator, oil and temperature sending units, you shouldn't have to splice anything.

yes i will use the original altenator and oil/temp sending units
and i`ll buy a HEI distributor!
but everything i dont need from the wiring of the ecm i will pull out of the car!
so my question is!
is it hard to pull out the wiring i don`t need anymore?
and the wiring i must use for running the car is that in the left over wiring harness?
is there some things that i must rewire?

All of the ECM harness can be removed in one piece without cutting anything. It clips to the kickpanel pass-through. Disconnect if from the ECM, unclip it, and pull it into the fenderwell and up and out of the engine compartment. Everything it attaches to can either be unbolted from the engine compartment, or unclipped from the engine.
The other stuff you need will be part of the other harness. At worst you may have to unbundle some things that are bundled together from these two harnesses.

Re: Can i use the TPI wiring harness???
hi
i have make a start to day on the tpi harness, pfff what a wiring!!!
oke i have unclip all the sensors and other stuf!
so i have now one big harness out of the car!
what is the best thing to start with?
must i start by the ecm side or must i start by the C100 clip??
one thing i don`t understand is this:
i have looked at the altenator wiring and i see that the wire in the middel off the altenator plug (light brown/tan) is connected to the plug off a cooling sensor.
this sensor is sitting on the front off the intake manifold!
i remember there are 2 sensors on the manifold!
so what must i do with this wire?
why is it connected together?
i know the earley altenators has a 2 wire plug, i have a 3 wire plug!!
please help again
dennis

Re: Can i use the TPI wiring harness???
hello all
so i have splice the wiring harness today.
it take`s 2 hour off time from me to complete it!
but i have a few wires that need a answer haha!
first: there is a altenator plug that has 3 wires!
1: brown from (c100) 2: tan (from plug till the cooling fan relay and cooling fan plug behind the headlight) 3: red (c100)
so now i wanna now must i cut the tan wire or what?
i have seen that the cooling fan plug and relay is connected on the ecm wiring with 2 wires!
1: gray 2: green/white (this are the 2 only wires that is still connected with the ecm harness!
what must i do with these wires?
if i cut these wires (the tan from the altenator and the gray and green/white from the ecm)
than its all loose and it looks that i don`t use it anymore!is this correct?
or must i connect the gray and green/white
on a ground or what?
oh and there are 2 wires left from the AC presure sending plug (high presure and low presure) must these connect to ground?
and the fuel plug has 2 wires left (a pink/white and a green/black i thought)
i have reed somewhere that i must connect one of the wires on the oil pressure wiring!
thanks dennis
