Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

Hey everyone I have a quick question. Can I put a holley 650 spread bore double pumper on my Performer RPM intake square bore?

Do they have adapters for it? And if so would I need one? Would it help?

Not without an adapter. I'd be more inclined to replace the carb.

Yes, they make square bore to spread bore adapters.

Yes, you would need one to mount a Holley spread bore (or any spread bore carb) on a square bore Performer RPM.

They do make a spread bore Performer RPM (non-air gap only, though).

Re: Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

I already have the intake so Im sticken with that. Also Im liken spread bore carbs better for fuel economy and noise when I get on it. Plus the guy im gettin it from is sellin it to me CHEAP and its got a fresh rebuild kit on it.

Whats a good link for the adaptor?

Re: Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

the performer air-gap(2601) is a spread bore carb intake , the performer RPM air-gap(7501) is not. so i would keep the carb change the intake or change the carb keep the intake .

Go to store.summitracing.com and look through the induction section. You can find almost anything you're looking for on summit. I would however go with the crowd. I've been there and done that, and changing the intake is not that hard or expensive. Dont forget to mesure the clearance to the hood. The adaptor will raise the carburetor.

Re: Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

Alright so the carb is on its way and I got an adapter for it. Hood wise Ive got an SS hood so it added a couple inches, I also have a low profile air cleaner. And as you were saying about cost, well Im still in high school and Im workin two jobs, Ive got insurance and car payments to make on it, Im also having to save up for the cost for paint and materials, my new fender, new quarter panel skin, new headliner, new rearend(Ive currently got a busted C-clip), and some other odds and ends. Work is starting to slow down and money is running short, so switching the intake is out of the question. I picked up a brand new adapter for 10 bucks after shipping (gotta love ebay).

Re: Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

if you want the bennies of a spreadbore more power to you but if your power crazy you might actually loose a few ponies with the adaptors. they work fine but as you already stated you addressed your hood clearence issues. the only things you need to address are the carb for starters. does it have the correct linkage for a gm throttle and the tv cable and cruise if applicable? if not youll need the linkage which aint cheap. now you need to address the fuel line hook up depending on what you have now. just food for thought. its the **** you dont think about until youre actually bolting the sucker and on say "damnnnnnnn this dont work' and its 10p on sunday night.
dont want to start a discussion here butttttttttttt the spreadbore holley has never won rave reviews and kind of falls short as far as a carb goes. theres minimal parts available for it and the fuel mileage increase on them werent the greatest. if it is fuel mileage and the "whooooooooooop" sound you wanted a q jet would probably be a better choice and the linkages are already there since its a gm carb. theyre a dime a dozen, parts galore aslo and the make as much or more hp than a spreadbore holley. just food for thought. if youre not in a hurry and want a spreadbore id suggest selling holley and looking for a clean q jet. theres also a ton of articles here and on the net about simple q jet mods. heck if you wait till spring i ll have my sean murphy built 750 q jet for sale.

Re: Spread Bore on a Square Bore?

Yah i still gotta get the brackets for it and Ill get the line after I see how much Im gunna need. My car is currently up at the shop so Im not really concerned about sunday 10P thing. And until I get my heads, cam, headers Ill prbly just stick with the spread bore, I might switch to a square bore 4 barrel when I get my bike next summer. It all depends, but Im wanting the sound of the spread bore too. But thanks a lot, Ive been lookin for opinions like that for a long time, it really helps out for future planning
