Need help picking out an air cleaner

I have a holley 770 CFM street avenger on a 400 that im swapping into my car, but the air cleaner that is on it wont fit on my stock hood, it was previously in a car with a cowl hood. What kind of an air cleaner do I need? I want some kind of low profile one that will sit low enough that I wont have a problem with hood clearance. Thanks in advance! links to summit as an example of something I'd need would be great!

Re: Need help picking out an air cleaner

Most use a drop-style air cleaner base and a 14 in filter. I don't know about the Holley's, but on an Edelbrock carb you have to include a 1/2in spacer to raise the base off the carb enough for the linkage to clear. These spacer rings are plastic, and don't work worth a hoot in my book - they don't seal to the carb well, allowing dirt in. Plus, for many of us, the 14in air cleaners rub a plug wire.

I use a Spectre 9in cleaner - it's smaller and doesn't rub anything. It comes with a 2in filter in it that's cleanable and rechargeable (like a K&N with oil). It's not a drop base, so there's no linkage issues - but the top center is tall (kinda cone shaped where the center is slightly higher than the sides). I just put a long bolt through a piece of wood, and tightened a nut on the top gently until it bent down flat.

It fits fine under my stock hood - I have a Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock 1405 carb. And, it looks to me like it allows MORE airflow than the drop bases - they drop so much that you end up with only about a 1/2in space for air to travel through - with this I clearly have a complete 2in all around.

They sell on the shelf at Autozone for $29.95.

You can see it on my car in a few pics in my photobucket:

Summit doesn't have any pics of it - P/N SPE-47708. Spectre website is www.spectreperformance.com - click catalog, then air cleaners, then scroll down
