im rebuilding a 350 chevy engine that came out of a 95 suburban. i bought it to replace a stock 305 in my 84 pick up (scottsdale). ive had the block bored and honed to .040, decked, and cleaned (the oven baked method). it has a new lunati voodoo cam with matching lifters, all new bearings everywhere, new piston heads (summit racing brand). the heads have been decked and new valve seats installed, and an edelbrock performer series intake. for the most part this is going to be like a brand new motor. i have 2 questions...what would be a suitable carburetor for my particular application, brand? cfm? spread bore? square bore? vacuum or mechanical secondaries?...and also im wanting to re-use the stock piston rods but im having issues with getting the old pistons off the rods. im assuming they are a press in fit and there's no keeper clip on that i can see. do i need to have a machine shop press them out? or are there any home remedies i can do to get them off myself? ive had this truck since i was 16 and im just wanting a fun project. its going to be a daily driver so im not really going after horsepower. just looking to make it as fuel efficient as possible ( i know thats hard for a big truck!) and reliable. thanks for any help, i'll take any all suggestions!!

specs on cam? and heads? is this gonna be your daily for weekend toy. you can really go either way on mechanical or vacuum secondaries... however the mechanicals eat up more gas!!! hehe.

holley 600-670. take pistons/rods to a machine shop. don't heat them. make sure the machine shop doesn't heat them. yeah many people have gotten away with heating them but you can possibly weaken the rod if your not careful. snapon makes a tool for it its about $700 then you need a press. i made a tool fixture.
im not sure what the angle of lift is on the cam. it came with the motor when i bought it and the guy didnt know. maybe i can search the numbers stamped on it to find out? and the heads and valves are all stock. all ive done is had them resurfaced. and yes its gonna be a daily driver. thanks for the replies

Electric choke would be fine. I can't in good conscience recommend an Edelbrock carb.
i had an edelbrock q-jet 1409 on my 305 which i still have. i bought a rebuild kit with the intention on putting it onto my 350. but ive been asking around and ive got an overwhelming amount of people saying that holley is the way to go. so i think im gonna go for a holley. thanks guys, im sure i'll be posting more questions as i get further along on my build
