Edelbrock 1400 back two barrels not opening/getting gas
Edelbrock 1400 back two barrels not opening/getting gas
Hey guys,
So i have a 91 RS with a 350 in it...
I get great power off the line and at lower RPMs, but then it kinda is lame at higher RPMs. Did a little digging around in the carb to find that my back two (Closest to the interior of the car) barrels (from my understanding the higher RPM barrels) never open, and are dry as hell, even after a long drive.
So basically my poor car is running on two little barrels of the carb.
Any ideas on what could be causing this to happen? I pulled the instructions and installation guide off the net, and everything seems to be hooked up correctly.
Thanks.

Why do you think they're not opening?
Re: Edelbrock 1400 back two barrels not opening/getting gas
Well i've revved the engine pretty much redline and they never open visually (looking down into the carb, with the 14" air filter off).
The lack of high RPM power led me to look into there..
And i know they are definitely getting no fuel, since the jets are dry, while the front ones are wet.
**EDIT** in case you couldn't already tell, i'm fairly new to carbs..

That's normal, you'll never see the air valve open that way.

It just really feels like those back two barrels have nothing attached to them. Like when i go to move them manually, they move so easily and just swing open and closed. Nothing else on the carb moves (like if you move the front two levers on the sides move)
Is that normal?

That flap you're pushing on that has no resistance isn't the secondary valves, it's the secondary air valve, and it's normal for it to move freely. The secondary valves are in the base of the carb below the boosters.

Well thats interesting.
Do you have any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this then?
My car just doesnt have the power that it should, especially at higher RPMs. It just doesnt feel right, and i believe its something with the carb since those back two barrels dont seem to be getting any fuel in them at all (dry jets, even after longer drives).
Any help would be much appreciated!
And thanks for your efforts until now! And if you need any more details or pics, just ask and i'll hook ya up!

I'd expect both the primary and secondary jets to be dry any time you looked at them.
If you don't know what state the carb is in now, I'd start by taking the Edelbrock carb manual and following its tuning instructions from the very beginning, as though you'd just installed a brand new carb.
