Some Identification Please

I'm not very knowledgeable about engines YET, but i'm learning. There are 3 Tubes coming out of my Edelbrock. I'm guessing that they're for the Vacuum secondary, but i'm not sure. There's a big one in the center, and one on each side. What are they for? There's a Pic Below.

While i'm here, let me ask you all what something under my hood is. Right next to the Cruise Servo, there's a Can thing with two Vacuum hoses coming out of it. One of the hoses leads to the Intake Manifold. What the hell is that? There's a pic of that below too.

Re: Some Identification Please

The 3 tubes are all vacuum. Left one is ported (does not have any vacuum at idle) - usually where the vac adv dist is connected. Right one is manifold vacuum (has vacuum always) - many times not used at all. The large one in the middle is for the PCV valce in the valve cover - to draw gas built up in the engine out and burn it up - like oil blowby around the rings and such.

The second pic is the fuel evap canister, or charcoal canister. It is filled with charcoal, and excess fumes and gas from the fuel system are captured there, then they are sucked (through vacuum) into the carb or intake to get burned rather than letting them escape into the air. Some of the later computer controlled cars have the evap canister connected with a solenoid, and the computer opens the valve every so often to let the fumes get sucked into the intake - older cars just had a line in (where the fumes go in), and a line out (vac line to carb/intake).

FANTASTIC! You're awesome! I'm gonna plug the small tubes and just go with the center on the carb. that will save some clutter under the hood. Can i remove that Fuel-Charcoal thing? With my Car being 28 Years old, do you think they'll sweat it?

Why isn't the vacuum advance on your distributor connected?

Re: Some Identification Please

Good Question. Answer: It's the original Distributor. The Previous Owner changed from the Quadrajet to an after market Carb and didn't change the distributor. It does run though. I have a Distributor that is ready for install. It's on my list to correct.

If you have the original carb, put it back on instead of changing the distributor.

Re: Some Identification Please

I don't have the original Carb. I got the thing for $900 about a month ago. I've put MUCH more than that into it though. The Car Idles DECENTLY at about 1100 and is cold natured. Would the new Distributor Make it idle Smoothly?

A proper distributor would make it run properly given the carb you have. If the timing is set where it was for the computer carb, it probably wouldn't idle or run well with the non-computer carb.
