Barry Grant Speed Demon Carbs

How do you guys feel about these? Looking at getting a 650 for my 357. Would be a step up from my tired edelbrock 600.

Re: Barry Grant Speed Demon Carbs

My old 750 Speed Demon worked great and so does my current 750 Race Demon which I bought used. If you buy new, or a used one for that matter, take the bowls off and check for any junk in there. Close off the Idle-EZ unless you really need it. Adjust the primary throttle blades to where the transition slots are little squares and don't touch that screw again. Use the secondary side adjustment screw to adjust the idle speed. The 4 corner idle adjustment screws will probably end up around 3/4 to 1 turn out but put a vacuum gauge on and adjust for best vacuum. Make sure the accelerator pump arm doesn't have any slop at idle and just a little bit of travel left at wide open throttle, you want fuel to come out soon as the throttle is cracked open.

Re: Barry Grant Speed Demon Carbs

nice carbs, just a little complicated to tune compared to the Edelbrock but once you get it set it's night and day difference

Use the TCI linkage corrector for the TV cable. You will need to drill a hole in the bracket because the BG throttle shaft sticks out more than a Holley. Worked good for me.

Sold the demon today and went back to my edelbrock. Best thing that ever happened to my engine.

Re: Barry Grant Speed Demon Carbs

i don't blame you, i was about to quit too, but i'm glad i didn't, it's been fun tunning this carb as there is so much you can change but it can be frustrating since not all the changes produce good results.
Anyways that's how i got mine almost new with braded lines for $220.00 on Craigslist, the guy couldnt tune it and whent back to the Edelbrock

Wrong. I have all the time in the world to do anything to my car. Just an experiment more than anything. Might want to think twice fella.

Still sticking by what I said. Why in the world would you ever go back to a worse carburator? Oh yeah, because you didn't take the time on a better one.

Re: Barry Grant Speed Demon Carbs

I've run both, and i prefer the Demon. Edelbrocks are Easier though. They're cheaper too. From a daily use kind of perspective, I can see using an Edelbrock. If i wanted to tune the engine for peak horsepower and throttle response, I would have to use a Holley or a Demon. There are Blower setups out there with Edelbrocks, but how many performance applications do you see with Edelbrocks? I've had alot of fun fiddling with my Car, and tuning the Carb is going to be one of those things when i drop the new engine in. For the Record, it has the original 305 in it currently and it's topped with the same Edelbrock that i bought it with. When i take that engine out, i'll rebuild the Edelbrock and put it on Craigslist.
